I was first asked to do a gotomeeting interview, scheduled for about an hour. I was asked about my background. and asked some questions to assess my problem solving skills, e.g. how would you go about figuring out why an application won't print. At the end of the meeting, the interviewer shared his screen, and asked me to read a story problem, and provide an answer to the two questions. I passed, and the next step was that the interviewer sent me an assessment that is administered by a company called Berke that I could work on over the weekend. There are about 12 sections to this test if I remember correctly, and each of the sections were timed. It consisted of vocabulary type questions, seeing how accurately you could type, looking at 3D geometric figures from different perspectives to identify which ones are the same, and more. Apparently I did very badly on the "problem solving" and "idea productivity" sections of this test. This was ridiculous, as I have been in an IT career for more than 20 years, and problem solving has always been one of my strengths. As a result, this killed my chances. I tried to even contact Berke to understand how they come to this conclusion, but they won't reveal anything. I can't believe companies are using this assessment to make hiring decisions. I can only guess that it was based upon the two questions I listed below, because they were really odd questions to ask and only be given a couple of minutes to provide an answer.
