I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Macy's (Brentwood, TN) in Oct 2012
Interview
First of all, I should preface by saying I worked at Macys the previous year as seasonal. I arrived to my interview about 15 minutes early and the interviewer took me back to the interview room immediately. He asked me about my previous jobs and why I no longer worked there. He also asked why I was leaving my current job. I'm a college student and he asked me how many credit hours I have. I told him I didn't know and he said that he was a bit worried that I didn't know the answer. He asked me why I didn't stay on the team after the holidays were over last year. He asked me quite a few questions, more than I was asked last time. I've listed the ones I can remember below. After the interview he had me wait while he went and checked on something. He came back and offered me a part time sales associate position in women's shoes. Once the holiday season is over, they will evaluate my sales and if they are happy with them, then they will place me there and receive commission that permanent women's shoes associates receive. He did say that if a position in another department opens up, that I may have the option of switching departments. I accepted the offer.

Was interviewed for a seasonal position. Was told they have no seasonal positions, once they found out I was a college student. Made no sense to me quickly ended the interview.
The interview process was straightforward and fairly quick. It started with a phone interview from a recruiter or hiring representative who asked general questions about my background, availability, and interest in the role. The tone was professional but conversational, and the interviewer focused on making sure I could handle a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
I had one interview with the store manager and it lasted for about 45 minutes. The interview was all standard behavioral questions. I was offered the job on the spot.
