      Software Engineer New Grad Interview

      14 Nov 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Lime in Sept 2019

      Interview

I applied online and had a call with a recruiter 4 days later. It was like talking to death. I'll protect her identity but she really shouldn't have been hiring for a technical role. She asked about an internship and I explained everything in detail, but she kept saying "Can you elaborate more?" After a point, I just didn't know what to say. They will ask you to elaborate (a lot) on your experiences. So if you interview, make sure you can do that. Dumb it down if you can, apparently, the recruiters don't understand basic CS jargon

      Question 1

Why would you choose Lime over x,y,z?

      Software Engineer New Grad Interview

      22 Jan 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lime (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2022

      Interview

There were a total of 6 interviews. 2 initial interviews consisted of one with the recruiter (to check if you have cultural fit) and one coding with a software engineer (to check if you can code). If you pass those, then you'll do four interviews consisting of two codings and two behavioral. The coding will be 60 minutes each with random software engineers, and the behavioral ones will focus on previous projects and leadership interviewed by engineering managers. Aside from the obvious coding riddles that somehow assess a candidate's competence, the interviewers were robotic. They had no interest in my history or background, just focused completely on the coding capabilities. No interest in my hobbies or personal objectives. More of getting goals done and moving on. For example, "Can you tell me about yourself?" I would answer with the storyline, and they'd reply, "Oh so cool, let's code." After (30 + 60) + (60 + 60 + 45 + 45) min of interviewing, even if they gave me an offer, I would have rejected. There was zero commitment to show any culture or room for personal growth. There was a lack of diversity in the interviewers (most came from an Asian ethnic background). They focused on the outcome rather than the process. If they gave me an offer and I joined, I would have left within a year. Honestly, find a better hiring process, but more importantly, replace your engineering managers doing the interviews. They seem very unenthusiastic about life and have their self-interests to look out for. If you get an offer, make sure to weigh in this input; although you get the badge of honor for working at a high-paced and "successful" startup, think about your day-to-day work; will you stand the bs?

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      - "Tell me more about yourself" - "What project are you most proud of and why?" - "Could you show me some of the work you've done?" - "Could you tell me which classes you're studying this semester without looking at your transcripts?" (wtf) - "Who did you build this project with and what was everyone's role?" - "Tell me an example of an API you built for your previous job?" (they wanted very specific details that I can't for the life of me remember)
