Contacted for a phone interview at 08:30 am the next morning. I had applied for a position of the same name a few months ago, but there were three different job descriptions out there; two on the KCK website and one on LinkedIn, all a little bit different, with the last one containing information about a position in a different State. Anyway, about 09:15 am I called since 08:30 had come and gone without a word. The excuse was they were traveling and their flight was delayed. Pretty sure there was an opportunity to send me an email or something to let me know at some point, but nothing like that happened.
Fast-forward to a call with the hiring manager, who was also traveling. After multiple calls back and forth regarding salary; it was radio silence, even though they assured me they "hadn't forgot about me" and would call me back after a meeting they were in on Friday.
Needless to say, no call ever came, and finally today (Monday), I received the rejection email from the same person that contacted me in the first place, stating "we have selected the candidate whom we believe most closely matches the job requirements of the position." To which I queried, "why even bother reaching out to me and wasting my time if that was the case?" You contacted me remember?
In reality, it is the candidate who would take the least salary; since it was quite obvious the hiring manger was going back and forth between us to see who they could get for the cheapest. Hopefully the other candidate didn't get low-balled to badly...
Moral of the story, I probably wouldn't but a lot of stock in anything these people tell you.
