      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      12 Aug 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at HyperVerge (Bengaluru) in Aug 2020

      Interview

I have cleared all the rounds but was not able to answer one question in the situation reaction test. And they have rejected me. I was extremely disappointed. When you clear two written assessment and then the technical round and when get rejected just because of one question, this is something which is not appropriate. I feel one should not be judged on the basis of one question. Nobody is perfect. It was just one puzzle that I was not able to answer that doesn't mean that I cannot take quick decisions or I have bad reasoning ability. I think there should be improvement in this interview process. I was rejected just because of one wrong answer.

      Technical support-engineer Interview

      22 Sept 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at HyperVerge in Sept 2020

      Interview

Applied online through the HyperVerge website. There were totally 5 rounds.Below are the details.Applied on 25th July 2020 and received first response from HV on September 2nd for Take Home assignment 1. —IT IS A LONG READ— Take Home Assignment 1 : Submitted on Sept 3rd 2020.difficulty 2.5/5 .It was simple assignment consumed around 2 hrs. All the answers were prefect. HR sceening round (On call): On September 4th.Time taken 30 mins. Basic HR questions (why you quit the last job,Why join HyperVerge, blah, blah).Salary details and expectation was asked(no questions and concerns raised on expectations) Support Team screening round(Google Meet): On September 8th.Time taken 30mins.I had an experience of leading a support time HV team wanted to check if I fit into the role(which even I was not sure of).Did not expect it be a screening round until the meeting was started. Situation Reaction test(Google Meet): On September 9th.Time taken 1 Hour. It was not a typical Situation reaction test but a problem solving round and structural thinking round. 5 questions were asked and 2 of them were already know to me which were told upfront. 1) 8 coins and 1 is fake which is heavy. Identify the fake coin in minimum number of steps. It can be done in 2 steps. 2) 25 horses and 1 lane find the fastest 3 horses.Already knew the answer and told upfront that I knew the answer. It can be done in 7 races. 3)5 pirates and 100 gold coins.Already knew the answer and told upfront that I knew the answer. 4)2Eggs and 100 floors.Took some time to get the solution but did it.Solution can be found online. 5)8 coins and 1 is fake. Need to identify the fake one and determine if it is heavy or lighter. Take Home Assignment 2: Received assignment on 10th and submitted on 11th.Difficulty 2/5.It was simple and straight forward assignment consumed around 2 hrs. All the answers were prefect. Got call from HR on 16th September saying that the salary expectation are high and we can proceed with interview process only if the salary is negotiable(like pointing a gun and asking for opinion).Went ahead with interview process. After a long wait the interview was scheduled on 22nd Sept. Interview was supposed to be with one of the cofounder I was expecting a technical interview. Final Interview on 22nd Sept(Google Meet and Call): It was nothing like expected(expect the unexpected at hyperVerge interviews). There was a mock call for a high priority issue.Call was for around 30 mins.Since the interview was setup with cofounder did not consider this call as major factor(Again expectation not set right). The call was totally fake( I mean the anger and pressure in call) and one sided(Meaning the emphasis was on confronting the client rather than solving issue realised it after the rejection :)).Could not clear the round and the feed back given was that I was unapologetic and not empathetic towards client. I was clearly unapologetic(If you work as a technical Support Engineer you will surely know that the first time you face an issue you don’t need to be apologetic if the issue repeats then you surely need to be). I am not sure how one can decide if a person is not empathetic enough in mock scenario(They wanted me to fake empathy?). The role should be renamed as Empathetic Technical support engineer(Pun intended nothing personal). I think the expectation(I may be totally wrong) was to be apologetic( Like the Swiggy and Zomato executives say as soon as you call[We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused,I can totally understand your situation,I know what you are going through] them without actually meaning it) which I could not do because the client call seemed fake and could not indulge into it (I knew it was mock) and I was trying very hard to control my laughter( because of the routine dialogues received to the support like I have to update my manager and someone is chasing me for this, excessive business loss because of the issue). All those preparing for Empathetic Technical support engineer at HyperVerge should practice empathy and apologies(May be a course on Coursera or unacademy [pun intended not be taken seriously]) because I think HyperVerge thinks those chracterstics cannot be incorporated. HyperVerge certainly checks your patience (total 59 days from date of application to rejection). Now that I have feedback from HyperVerge I can join/start a new paid course on empathy and apology(Pun intended not to be taken seriously). Detailed information is put up so that all those preparing for this role here should not commit similar mistakes and close down the role early so that it doesn’t waste other candidates time(Yeah I do community service) On a good note HyperVerge provided me with feedback after every round unlike other companies which never get back to you.HyperVerge is working on great tech and they have yet achieved a drop in ocean who are on virtue of achieving something bigger.
