Unprofessional and Disrespectful Interview Process – A Cautionary Tale
My interview experience with HappyScribe for an SEO position was, frankly, one of the most frustrating and unprofessional processes I’ve ever gone through.
I interviewed with three different stakeholders, each requiring significant time and preparation. Across multiple hours of calls, it became increasingly clear that the company was more interested in brainstorming SEO ideas for their business than genuinely evaluating me for a role. It felt less like an interview and more like free consulting under the guise of recruitment.
After the final round, I was told I'd receive an update later that day or at the latest, the following day. That update never came. Over the next few weeks, I followed up eight times. Each time I was told the same vague promise: “a decision will be made shortly” and “you’ll hear back soon.” Not only was this disrespectful of my time, but it also showed a complete lack of basic courtesy and communication.
When I finally did get a response, it was a flimsy, last-minute excuse for why they weren’t moving forward. No concrete feedback, no explanation that matched the time and energy I had invested just a lazy, unprofessional brush-off after weeks of silence.
If you're a candidate considering applying at HappyScripe, proceed with caution. Their handling of the interview process shows a serious lack of respect for people’s time and contributions. A company that treats potential hires this poorly raises serious concerns about how they operate internally.
