      Corporate Operations Engineer Interview

      15 May 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Singapore
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Google (Singapore) in Apr 2017

      Interview

The process started out great. I was contacted by a recruiter from Google who thought I would be a good fit for this role and began the interview process. We spoke numerous times about the position and within a week, I was interviewing with one of the engineers on site. I then received another phone call, before the interview, from the recruiter telling me that there is this other position that just opened up that looks the same, except it has 50% international travel. I told her I would be very interested in the travelling position. The interview with the engineer went great, we had quite a bit in common and she was very knowledgeable about her position. She asked me different questions about my current position and improvements I've made and implemented throughout the years. We parted ways in a very positive manner and I was very excited about this new opportunity. I was then contacted by the recruiter who congratulated me and said I would be going on-site for my next interview there at Google. Ecstatic, I went out, I got my suit pressed, purchased a new pair of shoes, and ensured I was ready to go, 100%. I told my friends and family that I made it to an on-site interview with Google. I was thrilled about this new opportunity... It turns out, the new position the recruiter was talking about before my interview with the engineer was not the same (it only appeared that way because they copied and pasted the job description) and I was transferred to this new recruiter who didn't seem to have a care in the world. During my new conversations with this new recruiter I pressed hard to find out more about the position where she simply read, word-for word, what the previous job description said and appeared irritated I asked. Eventually she set me up with another interview with a hiring manager I believe it was. This next interview was a bit awkward. Not only am I no longer going to New York to interview on-site, but it was scheduled at 3am Pacific time over a webcam... I was then asked questions about a job description that I was not informed about yet, even though their interview preparation guides said to study and master their job descriptions they have posted. That being said, the interview did not go well and I honestly did not feel I wanted to send my career in this direction after finally learning more about what the job actually entailed. I sat on the decision for a few days and then emailed the recruiter letting her know that I am very thankful and would still be interested in the previous position, or any other positions, but to go ahead and cancel the remaining scheduled interviews for this position... During the next scheduled interview, there was a missed call on my phone, it was pretty evident at this point the recruiter ignored by request...
