      Community Development Manager Interview

      21 Jun 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Google (Washington, DC) in Apr 2026

      Interview

The process started with an online application followed by a few emails with people to vet me for the role and get details of my experience, a questionnaire, then a video interview with the supervisor for the role. The interviewer literally got up to get coffee as I was answering a question during the video interview. It felt like they wanted me to speak in acronyms and jargon, which I practice not doing, especially as someone who works directly with community. The whole thing felt disconnected from the start. It was clear before the interview was over that what I was hoping the role would entail and what I believe to be successful community work to get a data center built, and what they were looking for did not align. No hard feelings, but I had different expectations for Google.

      Question 1

This was so, so jargon heavy. I was thrown off by how much it felt like business school, mostly because a role working in community requires so much more capacity to connect with people on a human level and jargon like that reduces credibility in the rural Midwest.
