I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Free People (Philadelphia, PA) in Nov 2023
Interview
The process is definitely long, but as is at any other company. They were responsive and helpful in answering any questions I had and were truly very kind. I appreciate them taking their time.
I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Free People (Philadelphia, PA)
Interview
I applied directly through the URBN careers page and followed up with the recruiter via LinkedIn. This was in October.
The first step was a phone screening and then a video interview with the reporting manager. After meeting with the reporting manager she scheduled me to meet with her manager, the creative director. All of these calls were pleasant and fairly easy. At the end of my 2nd interview with the creative director she mentioned that I would need to complete a project.
It took about 2 weeks to receive the brief and I was given 2 weeks to complete the project. I reached out to the recruiter several times with questions about the project but she never answered me which was very frustrating.
I submitted the project early December and did not have an opportunity to present the project until the end of December.
The reporting manager gave me a timeline of when they hoped to make a decision. I didn't get any type of email or notification about the team making a decision so I emailed the talent manager I had been corresponding with. The response/decision came to me at the end of January that they did not offer me the role.
The feedback that they gave me was vague and generic. I followed up for specific feedback but did not receive a response. The main part of the feedback was that they would recommend me for any other role within the brand and when another role came up on the team 2-3 months later, the recruiter ignored my emails.
It was disheartening to go through a 3-month long process with poor communication. From my own experience and others that I know, FP and URBN recruiting staff give candidates the run-around. The managers gave me the impression that they support and enjoy cultivating talent on their team. The recruiting staff needs to be in better communication with talent and candidates.
