I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Fort Brands (Lincoln, NE) in May 2024
Interview
Interviewing at The Fort was the worst interviewing experience I've ever been through. The month long interview process was completely unprofessional, disorganized, and lacked any common respect for the time of their applicants. Then after all of that they decided they weren't going to open up the position and decided to close it to all applicants. There's a reason why they're ranked worse than even many retail and fast food jobs.
After applying I was contacted the next day over text and the guy doing the hiring there set up a pre-interview over the phone for later that day. He was late with the phone call and his "few minutes" turned into almost an hour wait. Once we finally had the call I got the impression that he was some low level employee just trying to screen me because he acted like he didn't quite know what to ask me, It stood out as very odd when compared to any other phone interview and came across as some casual conversation he was having while he typed away at his work. Only when he said he was interested in having an in person interview with me did I realize this guy was someone in charge of hiring.
We set up the interview for the next week. All communications with Fort was done over text with him. I showed up, waited until he was available and we did the interview in his office. Once again, it wasn't like any other interview and came across as very odd. The only normal thing was him asking me tell him a bit about myself. At points during the interview it seemed as if I should've been giving the interview because of how odd it was. For someone who was doing the hiring he didn't have an interview plan at all and the little he had to say could've been covered over the phone. Especially since he mentioned that I would have to come back in for another interview because the person I would be working directly under wasn't there. So another interview would have to be set up. Instead of scheduling something then he said he'd contact me early next week.
Early next week came and no contact. But a few days later I got a text asking what day for the following week would work best. I confirmed a a day with him that worked for everyone and then nothing. No mention of time until like a day or two before the actual interview day. All my responses were within minutes of his and early enough in the day for warrant a response. But I guess he couldn't be bothered or they're so horrible mismanaged that they cant even set aside time for applicants. Even after agreeing to the time there was no confirmation and I had to take a chance that everything was all set when I showed up for the 2nd interview.
Once again, the 2nd interview was very odd and explained very little about the job. Instead of meeting with the same guy I met with a woman and she led me to a separate building around back where Id be working. There I finally met with the person who I would be directly working under. I stood with the other woman while she sat and worked through the interview. Stopping the interview several times to deal with something. Again, there was very little interviewing. What she really cared about was if I had any transferrable skills or if I had children because she said she didn't want anyone who could be poached by other departments/companies and didn't want to take the chance on a parent who might have to make the error of staying home and taking care of a sick child. No mention of other aspects of the job other than what I was aware of and the interview was over after no one had anything to say. Still no mention or benefits or pay because I guess they're some big secret and I was lead out by the first woman I met. On our way back she asked about pay, and I brought up the lack of information about pay and benefits and she said that would be discussed by the guy who initially contacted me. I gave my desired pay and the interview ended. I suspect that whatever range they did advertise wasnt a range they were willing to pay.
I was told Id hear something early next week and I never did. Only 2 weeks after, so a full month since the start of this process, did I receive a text from the guy. He said they would like to hire me but they decided the position I was initially applying for would not be a thing and they'd be closing it. But I should apply for another position. I obviously told them I wouldn't be seeking employment with Fort Brands.
