Home Energy Management System (HEMS) Standards Engineer Interview

      9 May 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ford Motor Company in May 2024

      Interview

Very frustrating process. Recruiter reached out via LinkedIn saying my profile was interesting and to schedule a time to talk with him (provided Calendly-like link) and to send my resume. I scheduled a time to talk (first availability almost 3 weeks out), confirmed the time with him and sent my resume. Next day he sent me a job posting that could be a good fit and asked if I was interested. I responded I would be interested in hearing more about it and didn't hear back. I assumed we would talk more about it during our scheduled time. The recruiter reached out again, days later, in the same conversation, with a link asking me to schedule a time to talk. I told him the link wasn't working but that we already had a time scheduled in a couple of weeks. He then proceeds to send me the same job posting asking if I was interested. I was confused as to why we were having the same conversation we just had days prior, with him having no recollection of it. Either way, I responded that I would be willing to hear more about it. Recruiter then says if I'm free to talk next day and I confirm availability. I'm currently employed so I had to block off my calendar to make time for the phone call. I prepared reading about the potential role and how it corelates to my experience. Recruiter calls, introduces himself and says he just needs to go through some housekeeping questions. He asks if I'm willing to relocate, which I say no to. He then ends the call pretty much immediately. The entire process was confusing and frustrating. The recruiter could've easily check my location preference (which is openly available in my LinkedIn profile) but he dragged it out to a phone call to disqualify me on the spot. He wasted my time and his time for not asking a basic question before scheduling a call. I don't know if employers are willingly wasting candidates time, if they are not serious about hiring, but it seems like this is a game to some people.
