I have been working at Ford Motor Company full-time

    Pros

The manager of the customer service dept. was fantastic. A very approachable, understanding & outgoing person. didn't feel like a traditional "boss". Most, if not all of the staff in the other departments were very nice too. The money is good, for a customer service position.

    Cons

The position itself is very difficult, being spoken to in an aggressive, rude & insulting manner every day undoubtedly has a negative affect on a person. There was little to no room for upward mobility, there didn't seem to be any option to move up the ranks. If there had been, I could have seen myself sticking out the job for another while, in order to move up. But that doesn't seem like a great way for... Ford to hire the best people. Upper management are stuck in the stone age in certain ways. Having to start from the bottom and do a job you hate for years, in order to get a position that is relevant to your degree/field doesn't make any sense. It's more a test of your patience, rather than your proficiency to do the given job. Some people in upper management are there simply because they've worked there for X number of years. Seems backwards. Also, a small thing but does sitting at a desk answering phones all day really require someone to wear a tie? Come on, reprimanding people for not wearing their tie in a job that isn't client facing? Get real.

    Advice to Management

Try to listen to the customer service advisers more, to their ideas on how to improve processes. Provide more opportunities for upward mobility. Ties should be optional.
