Over the course of 5 months, I interviewed for two separate marketing leadership roles and interviewed with 10+ employees. Both processes were long and poorly organized due to changing scope and job descriptions. One of the roles was never filled and the other was suddenly filled by an internal candidate, after I had gone through the full interview loop over the course of 2+ months. Two weeks before the internal candidate was selected, Ford sent me a box of premium Ford branded merchandise, including a Yeti mug, a leather notebook and pen, and with a note saying they now consider me family and if I don’t get an offer they hope I will at least purchase a Ford vehicle. Though this may have been well intentioned, it was a careless, insulting and expensive mistake on the part of the company, since they did not intend to hire me.
I believe Ford does a better job of recruiting lower level talent, but I highly recommend avoiding their leadership recruiting process. They do not know what they want and will string you along as they try to figure it out. Don’t be fooled- they are not modern company, as much as they would like candidates to think they are.
