      Manager, Commission Collections Interview

      5 Dec 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Engine in Nov 2024

      Interview

I was contacted through LinkedIn by an outside recruiter who thought I would be a great match for the role. My first interview was with the Hiring Manager, which I thought went very well. The second interview was with the Head of Finance. I wasn't sure if I would be contacted for a third interview due to some technical issues I experienced with the camera connectivity for the zoom call, which definitely rattled me and I did not interview at my best potential. The feedback I received was that they decided to move forward with another candidate with stronger "accounting experience" which was a surprise since it was not listed in the job description, nor discussed in the interview itself. I can't help but wonder if that was the true reason they chose not to move forward with me, or if it was more related to the technical issues experienced. I will say however, that I may have perhaps dodged a bullet with this company. After reading through employee reviews of the company with complaints of very poor work/life balance and extreme levels of stress experienced from employees who were constantly in fear of losing their jobs, I asked the manager about employee turnover. She did confirm that the overall turnover rate for the company is currently high (between 50-75%) and that half of the employees currently working there have been there less than 2 years, and not much was said on what they are doing to drive these numbers down, only that the company is young and growing and thus the environment is very fast paced and performance expectations are very high.
