      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Interview

I recently completed the interview process for the Senior Software Engineer position at DoiT, and I wanted to share how positive and refreshing the entire experience was. From the very first call, Oscar from the Talent Acquisition team was incredibly helpful. He clearly outlined the role and what the company is looking for, but what stood out most was how much he focused on me — my career goals, motivations, and what I was truly looking for in my next opportunity. That mindset really left a great impression on me. The second stage was a 1-hour conversation with the Director of Engineering, where we dove into engineering principles, my day-to-day practices, and past experiences. It felt more like a collaborative conversation than a traditional interview, which made the experience both comfortable and insightful. Finally, I had a 1.5-hour technical session with two engineers from the team. The task was based on a realistic, practical challenge — the kind of problem you'd actually encounter on the job. I appreciated how natural and collaborative it felt, with lots of healthy back-and-forth discussion. It didn’t feel like a test — it felt like working with future teammates. Throughout the process, Oscar continued to be a rockstar — always keeping me informed, answering all my questions in detail, and making sure I had everything I needed at every step. All in all, the experience was genuinely one of the best interview processes I've been through. I walked away with a very positive impression of the team and culture at DoiT.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Broadly speaking, the interview process included the following types of questions: Why I was looking to move on and what I was seeking in my next role. How I would handle conflict within my team. If I could revisit one of the recent projects I worked on, what changes I would make. Questions regarding the scalability of cloud-based applications and how to design scalable solutions. Real-world problems related to application design, focusing on frontend, backend, and deployment aspects of the proposed problem statement.

      Interview

Very enthusiastic recruiter. Manager interview went over current work and future directions clearly. Technical interview was reasonably simple. There were questions that were clearly specific to me, based on my CV.

      Interview

Very poorly managed hiring process. After applying to the role, I received an invite for a first HR interview and the typical "Based on your CV, I believe your skills align well with the role requirements". The only available spot for interviewing was in 2 weeks time, so I booked the first available one. One week before the interview, I see a notification on the invite been canceled. I reached out the TA, asking if there was any change in the process and if the role was still open. Radio silence. The day after, I got the "We Appreciate You Applying to DoiT". It was for sure one of the most unprofessional experiences I had in 20 years.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand how frustrating it can be to receive a rejection email before connecting, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. While we can’t confirm the exact details of this anonymous review, it appears the email was triggered automatically when the role was closed—before we had a chance to speak with everyone already invited to interview. This seems to have been a one-off issue, not reflective of how we operate. We typically connect personally with every candidate to provide updates and ensure clarity. Our priority is to let candidates know as soon as a role is closed—so we can be transparent, fair, and respectful of their time. We’ve refreshed our recruiting system best practices to help ensure this doesn’t happen again. Regarding scheduling, we pride ourselves on moving quickly—our time-to-interview is typically well below market benchmarks, and we aim to ensure candidates get a chance to connect with us in the coming days rather than weeks. We’d welcome any additional details you’re willing to share to help us continue improving the experience. Feel free to contact me at lital@doit.com. Interview

The interview process was good and refreshingly different from what seems to be common in the tech industry, where some folks use an interview to intimidate or belittle the interviewer. The interviews at DoiT were professional and authentic. Every stage was both conversational yet professional including the Talent Acquisition partner, Nelly. She was brilliant from the start and that I believe set the tone for the rest of the stages. It was 4 stages: 1) screening, 2)high-level technical interview with the Director of Engineering (30 minutes), 3a) technical interview with 2 team members (45 minutes) where they deep-dived into my experience and working style, 3b) System design interview with another two team members (45 minutes), 4) and final interview (technical/behavioural and equally conversational yet professional) with the VP of Engineering (45 minutes). The entire process took 3 to 4 weeks.
