I applied online. I interviewed at Dataengine (Auckland, Auckland) in Jan 2026
Interview
The interview process was very practical and well structured. It was not only a verbal interview process, but also included a small practical project based on a real-world scenario.
There were four main stages:
1. Initial HR screening over the phone to discuss my background, experience, availability, and interest in the role.
2. Technical interview with technical team members related to my expertise area, including data science, AI, Python, and practical project experience.
3. Practical case study/project submission and presentation, where I had to build a small end-to-end solution and explain my approach, model choice, results, and next steps.
4. Final informal interview with the CEO, mainly focused on getting to know me as a person, my working style, motivation, communication, and fit with the company.
Overall, the process felt modern, professional, and realistic for a Data Scientist role.
