      Account Manager/Sales Representative Interview

      2 Sept 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Somerset, NJ
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Codis Group (Somerset, NJ)

      Interview

The process was rather unconventional. The first interview was done via Skype and was approximately ten minutes long. It was as expected. The second interview was rather bizarre. Upon arriving I was taken by two company employees to a Starbucks. I noticed numerous other applicants had other employees doing the same to different off-site locations. I found it weird that the interviews were not done in the workplace. I realized that the promises for a job quickly had changed upon the second interview from the first. I was told the position was an HR Managerial salaried position on the phone/skype interview and upon the second interview I was informed it was a pyramid tier system. I would be doing SALES inside of a walmart on a commission structure. I would not have gone to the interview if I knew this in advance. The employees were very friendly and nice and upfront. I was not upset with them but rather the information fed to me to get me in the door.(of starbucks!) I turned down the offer to work for the employer. The employer called me back asking if I would reconsider and I declined a commission based structure.

Hi there Anonymous! We greatly appreciate this feedback! It is great to hear that people enjoy our Skype interview method! When we hire again we will know it is a good method! We also thank you for the feedback on the unconventional method of performing our interviews at the local Starbucks. One thing you should probably know about us is we are an unconventional company. We like to create new methods for antiquated systems that most people are just simply bored of. We may have missed the mark with you and for that we apologize however we have found that by performing a face to face interview in a more relaxed atmosphere the interviewee can relax a bit more and we can see the real person. Again we are sorry you felt differently about this. Another thing we wanted to touch on with you is the mention of applying to an HR Managerial salaried position and for some reason it changed to a sales position. Two things may have happened here: 1) We at some point were hiring for an HR person and if we got you mixed up with someone else we truly apologize. Upon hearing that the position was different you certainly had every opportunity to bring that up in the conversations you had with us. Why didn't you? We would have gotten to the bottom of that mix-up! Or 2) If you had gone through our Skype interview and it was for the Sales position we were hiring for then we are absolutely positive that we go over in great detail what the sales job entails. We do not want to waste anyone's time and we want to be clear that people understand the position's responsibilities. it would not behoove us to waste our resources in training someone if they did not feel it was a right match for them or for us. Furthermore, you described a commission structure as well as a pyramid structure. Both of these assertions could not be further from the truth. We do not offer commission based positions and we'll have you know that every person in our office is paid exactly the same as everyone else so there is no way that a pyramid structure would work because no one makes money off of anyone else in our office. We are also surprised to hear that we called you back and asked if you would reconsider because no one in our office are instructed to request those sorts of things. Again we appreciate your time that you spent with us. A small word of advice - next time you feel that things are misleading we hope you have the confidence to speak up then because as we can see it leads to misconceptions. We aim to be as transparent as possible. We do not benefit from the amount of interviews we do and we are extremely selective in who we feel are most qualified to work with us. We truly hope you find the best position possible with your skill set and we also wish you luck in all your future endeavors!
