      Software Engineer Interview

      14 Dec 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Poland, ME
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Codility (Poland, ME) in Nov 2024

      Interview

I didn't enjoy the process at all. The HR representative was honest and friendly, and I genuinely loved the conversation during the initial screening call. They have two technical steps, the first is a more theoretical discussion with a team lead, and the second should be a live coding session lasting 90-120 minutes. I had the opportunity to try only the first step, and the conversation with the team lead felt promising, like speaking with a potential future teammate. However, it quickly shifted into a confusing theoretical assessment. I was shown a looping GIF that demonstrated user interaction. The task involved identifying visual issues in this interaction. Unfortunately, the task's objective was unclear. I had to ask multiple times just to understand what I was supposed to do. I did my best to describe what I thought were issues in the application, but the interviewer interrupted me, asking me to focus on just one issue and explain steps to resolve it. I tried again, but the task remained ambiguous, and the rules seemed to change on the fly. Without any information about the application's stack, state management, or access to the actual code, proposing a concrete solution based solely on a looping GIF was difficult. At the end of the meeting, the interviewer concluded by saying, "There are no right or wrong answers." The experience felt strange and unproductive. While this exercise might be useful for someone who specializes in debugging applications based on visual cues, I don't believe it effectively showcased my technical knowledge. I sincerely hope others don't have to go through a similar assessment process. Lately, I got an email that they decided to continue with other candidates.

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Codility (Warsaw, Masovia) in Jul 2020

      Interview

They asked to apply and immediately take an online coding challenge in their platform. An 90 minute challenge. All this to get ghosted. No feedback whatsoever. That's really sad. Shame on you codility.
