      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Cengage in Jan 2022

      Interview

I applied and heard back about a month later. There was an interview with the recruiter with basic questions. Next, there was an interview with the manager with the same basic questions. Then there was an interview with the team. The last interview was a live assessment. Lastly, they asked me to complete a written assessment. The entire process was 2-3 months from application to denial.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cengage (Boston, MA) in Mar 2018

      Interview

The interview process was great. I was contacted by the talent recruiter by email; followed by a pre screen telephone conversation. The following week I was contacted for an in person 1-1 interview. The interview was with the director of the department. It was friendly and went very well; very professional. The following week I had a second interview. The interview focused on skill sets, group collaboration, and project management. It was very professional and focused. Throughout the process, everyone was very accommodating and extremely professional. The communication channels were very good. I had a wonderful talent recruiter who was always available to answer my questions and kept very well informed throughout the process. The did extended an offer to me and I accepted.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Cengage (Belmont, CA) in Aug 2013

      Interview

Applied through LinkedIn. Phone screening with the recruiter who posted the job. She forwarded my info on to hiring manager. Phone interview with hiring manager. Three rounds of writing samples that were reviewed by internal and external experts. Then invited for in person interview. The in person interview actually consisted of an initial interview with manager, a series of 3 or 4 additional interviews with various people in the company, and then a wrap up with the manager. The entire time I got the impression that they were trying to convince me to work there - seems they had already decided they wanted to hire me based on my writing samples. The in person interview was not difficult, but the entire process was fairly difficult in that it took a very long time and I had to be very persistent and meet the deadlines for the writing samples they set out. I'm sure this is how they weed a lot of people out because it did take quite a bit of time and the directions were very specific. You couldn't just pull something you wrote in school out of a drawer and use it - you had to write everything from scratch. The entire process took 5 months from the time I applied until the time I was hired due to bankruptcy status and hiring freeze.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

For one of the writing samples, you are given a chapter of a book and then you have to write a few problems to accompany a specific chapter of the book. You then have to indicate how you would change the problem to work for a different textbook.
