      Customer Success Manager Interview

      17 Oct 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dublin, Dublin
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Canonical (Dublin, Dublin) in Sept 2023

      Interview

One of the most disrespectful hiring processes I have ever encountered. Firstly, you fill in the original application, and if you pass the screening, you have to undertake some technical assessments and a written interview. I am no stranger to these technical assessments; they're not overly demanding, and these were fairly reasonable. The written interview took hours to complete. The last two sets of questions were the only ones relevant to the role or current competencies. I found the questions about our high school and college experiences to be absurd. They were excessively time-consuming, not an accurate measure of current adult performance, and I believe they are not inclusive for a company that emphasizes being an equal opportunities employer. For example, candidates from underfunded school districts or disadvantaged backgrounds would obviously have their ability to excel in extracurricular activities affected, and for most applicants, these experiences are decades ago. I almost didn't finish the application when I encountered these questions. Being asked to spend multiple hours answering tedious and inappropriate questions before Canonical even bothered to conduct a phone screening interview did not sit well with me. However, I decided to put in as much effort as possible, hoping to at least receive some feedback. Nevertheless, after not being deemed suitable for the role, I received a generic response: "We are not able to provide specific feedback to you." I am a strong advocate of applying for interesting roles even when one doesn't meet all the criteria, so I am not feeling slighted that they didn't proceed with my application. However, I do find it disrespectful that they were unwilling to make even a minimal effort to offer application feedback after requiring applicants to invest hours in completing their process. Applications like this one is why people find job searches sole destroying. From other Glassdoor reviews you treat employees well, so treat applicants with the same respect. I would not recommend anyone to go through this deeply flawed application system.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Canonical (Dublin, Dublin) in Apr 2025

      Interview

The interview process at Canonical was one of the most extensive I've encountered. It included a written assessment ( about 38 questions), cognitive and personality tests, three early-stage interviews, a talent/HR interview, three final-stage interviews (including a timed presentation and panel exercise), and a final executive conversation. The process stretched across nearly three months, often with long periods of waiting between steps. While many of the individuals I spoke with were kind and insightful, the lack of communication between stages and the absence of any personalised feedback at the end was disappointing—especially after investing so much time and preparation. After eight hour-long interviews and multiple assessments, I received a rejection email over a week after the final round, with no explanation or guidance.

The negative reviews are legit. This company will waste a lot of your time with different types of assessments as part of their hiring process. I'm still not convinced that anyone actually looked at anything that I did.
