I applied and about 2 days later was contacted for a phone interview. After scheduling it, the recruiter asked me to answer a bunch of questions pertaining to my experience over email. All this information was listed on my resume.
The recruiter cancelled about 2 hours before the scheduled call, so I rescheduled.
On the day of, as I waited for a phone call, I got an email invite for a Google meet 2 minutes in. I was confused and let her know I was expecting a phone call. She said she just forgot to send me the Google meet link.
The interview felt awkward and choppy. I don't think she reviewed my resume or my responses to her email questions. I had to explain to her what a contractor was.
She didn't bother to introduce herself, or offer any context of the company or team that she was hiring for. I asked her questions, and she told me she didn't know because she was new.
Per her request, I shared my pay rate expectation. When I asked her whether that fell within their range, she told me that she couldn't tell me and I would find out later on in the interview process.
Ultimately, this felt like a waste of time. The recruiter was not prepared, nor knowledgable, and appeared distracted. Also, if you ask for a candidate's pay range, you should be ready to share the pay rate of the role.
