I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Amtrak (Raleigh, NC) in Dec 2016

They took a long time to contact me about an interview. The interview itself lasted about an hour. The application was thru the Amtrak website. I was first asked to do an online assessment which was 104 questions. Then I received a phone call saying I passed the assessment and would be emailed a time and date for an interview.

They asked if I was okay with traveling multiple days at a time.

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Amtrak (Chicago, IL) in Dec 2015

      Interview

I interviewed in Jan. of this year and the process was one of the most intense I've been through. I was interviewed by two train managers who were both nice, but clear about the attributes they wanted in a candidate. It was a three part interview, the first being informal introductions, the second part was a 10 question session where they took turns asking me various experience related questions and the third was questions from me. It took about an hour and went from relaxed to serious to relaxed.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

One of the tougher questions I was asked was something like: If you notice a co-worker struggling with his job, but you have your own job to do, would you help your co-worker and how?

      15 Apr 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amtrak (New York, NY) in Apr 2015

      Interview

Get ready to put everything in your life on hold as you go through the interview process.. First you fill out a application on line and include a cover letter and resume. You will answer an on line questionnaire. If you meet the qualifications you will be contacted by a recruiter for a brief phone interview. You will then have to go and take another "truth" test. If you pass that you will then be asked to go take a strength test. If you pass the strength test you will be invited for a three panel interview. If you make it through the interview you will need to submit to a drug test, credit check, background check, a physical examination and they will verify your education. I honestly felt like I was applying to the FBI.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Very cookie cutter situational questions like; describe a time when you observed an employee arguing with a customer.. How did you handle the situation? What was the outcome. Amtrak would be better served by getting to know the applicant in less of a robotic, read the questions from a piece of paper way of interviewing.
