I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Chennai) in May 2020
Interview
First online screening round of two coding questions. You have to write clean code. There will be no compiler, you have to self test your code. Followed by 5 one-one interviews on coding and detailed discussions on high and low level designs.
Interview questions [9]
Question 1
Round 1. Q 1.
Sudoku validation. Given a 9x9 integer matrix, validate if it is a solved sudoku puzzle
Round 1. Q 2.
n x 2 matrix of integers given. The matrix says enmity between 2 prisoners. Divide the prisoners into 2 groups where there is no enmity in the groups.
Eg:
1,2
2,3
5,4
The matrix means: There are 5 prisoners (1,2,3,4,5). Prisoner 1 is an enemy of P2. Not vice versa. Similarly Prisoner 2 is an enemy of P3.
The two possible groups are: {1,3,4} and {2,5} where is there is no enmity within the groups.
Round 2. Q 1.
n-vise reversing of singly linked list. Say all possible solutions. Discuss about pros and cons of all solutions. Then was asked to code the recursive approach.
Round 2. Q 2.
Given a chess board of size nxn. A Knight (Horse) piece, a starting position x1,y1 and an ending position x2,y2. Find the shortest path from start to end in the Knight moves.
Round 5.
Design discussion on the projects in resume. Questions like, 'you have designed this service as standalone, how can you make it shared or distributed, how will you scale' and so.
Then some behavioral questions.
Round 6.
High-level and low-level design of movie ticker booking system. Questions on your design and will be asked to add a new feature and see how your design fits enhancement.
Then some behavioral questions.
I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in May 2026
Interview
There were a total of 2 rounds:
The first round was with an SDE II on Data Structures/Algo - Leet code questions mainly
The second rounds was with an SDM Behavioral/System Design - Leadership principles and past work experience impact.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Amazon in Feb 2026
Interview
Recruiter explicitly mentioned that the Technical Phone Screen interview did not contain any Behavioral question but the interviewer definitely asked 3 behavioral questions.
The coding problem was utterly garbage, it was a pretty trivial problem that anyone that knows DFS would be able to solve. That is not appropriate for a SDE 2 role. Not even useful to demonstrate candidate skills
PS: They care a lot more about what you've accomplished than whatever you can accomplish based on your skills
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. Tell me about a time when you had to meet a tight deadline
2. Tell me about a time when you had to do more than what you were required to do
3. Tell me about a time where you made a significant impact on a customer
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Amazon (Bengaluru) in Sept 2025
Interview
5 rounds of interviews
1. OA (2 Medium Hard Questions along with some Work Related Assessment which tested design related concepts)
2. HLD
3. DSA
4. LLD
5. Bar Raiser
Technically, the questions were of medium difficulty and with good polish, you should be able to solve these questions. The main challenge in Amazon is of the Leadership Principles which involve citing real work experience in the STAR format.
