      Software Developer Interview

      21 Oct 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Vancouver, BC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Alea Software (Vancouver, BC) in Jul 2019

      Interview

I was contacted by their in house recruiter. I had a short phone screen with basic standard questions. The day after I was invited for an in-person interview. I met with 5 other developers for about 1.5 ~ 2 hours, mostly theoretical technical questions. I could not understand what does the company do, which team or project I am supposed to work. A few days later, the assigned me a very vague and simple assignment. I had 48 hours to complete and after a week they rejected for some unreasoanble reasons.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Alea Software (Vancouver, BC) in Nov 2019

      Interview

Firefly (this is Aleas new name) blatantly wasted my time by reaching out to me in the first place for a role that, by their own admission, I apparently never met the requirements for. The process was two short calls, one with a recruiter (who reached out to me in the first place) and one with an engineer, to go over my past experience. Followed by a short take home assignment and then an onsite interview with two engineers. I told the recruiter and the engineer over the phone all about my experience in the industry, and they both deemed that I was experienced enough to be brought in for an interview. The day after the onsite interview, they tell me that they can't hire me because I am not senior enough. The company is confused about what they're actually looking for, save your time and ignore their calls.

      Software Developer Interview

      24 Jan 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Vancouver, BC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Alea Software (Vancouver, BC) in Jan 2018

      Interview

They called me in for an in person interview and went through a series of interpersonal questions and questions about hobbies/interests. Eventually got to questions about previous jobs and technologies I've used. No time at all was spent on talking about proficiency in Java, I assumed this would be covered in the technical interview. At the end of the interview, I asked about the company and if they could give more information than the incredibly vague website they had. I think I mentioned 'online gambling' and they got quiet and refused to use the word gambling, instead opting for 'gaming' or 'casino software'. Super shady. Got an email back saying that my Java skills were a little under what they wanted for the position. Felt like I wasted my time for a cop out interview rejection. Why interview me at all if you can tell from my resume that I don't have enough Java experience?
