The whole process consisted of two rounds and some of the students had to go through the three rounds of the interview though.
The shortlisting was more or less based on the CGP (Cumulative Grade point) and it is good if you have a High-grade point.

Hiring manager interview. Asked questions about research work, projects. The candidate should have the basic fundamentals of the specialization, in depth knowledge of the current technologies, most relevant research areas and all. The focus is to advance technology to product and submit patents.
Interview was online. The interviewer had a PHD in algorithms.

Interview
Asked about my research interests and what I am going to do in my PhD. The interview was around an hour long, and there were two people present. There were no coding questions and mostly conceptual stuff around the implication and possible impact of my research.
