      Configuration Manager Interview

      15 Aug 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Veldhoven
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at ASML (Veldhoven) in Jul 2023

      Interview

I was screened by HR via email, to which they organized a round with the given team for configuration management at Veldhoven. The interview round with two individuals started professional, but unfortunately, turned very badly. We first talked about our backgrounds and aspirations. However, once I talked about my career aspirations, they immediately critiqued it. Part of the problem was that the job role implied this was a management position with direct reports, which was not the case. They clarified this wasn't a line manager position, which I did accept that was the case. Unfortunately, it set the tone that the interview was all about leadership. I attempted to pivot a focus to that leadership is something I would like to pursue in my career in the future, and if given the opportunity, perhaps within a few years at ASML. The individuals on the call perceived this negatively, as if I was asking for guarantees of having a promotion later. That is not the case. I was making a statement that I was open to grow, and yet, they didn't choose to hear it. I was asking if there was room for growth, and ASML didn't say whether there is or not. Simply there are open leadership roles that I am looking for now open, but not in the CM team. Even if I tried to clarify my position both professionally and dutifully, the interviewers do cut you off short, as if they prematurely saw no advantage to continue having a conservation. Once I picked up on that, I moved to simply end the call because it wasn't worth their time getting to know me. This isn't the first time I found ASML disrespecting me by inactive listening, by interruption, and by a lack to understanding of a prospective candidate. Due to the bad interview experience, I withdrew my application immediately after the interview. I don't think I will interview with ASML again.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They reflected mostly on my earlier comments, nothing in regard to the role itself. What is your leadership attitudes?

      Configuration Manager Interview

      17 Aug 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience

      Application

      I interviewed at ASML

      Interview

Contacted by the TA person. Didn't have the HR interview, which is usually the first step. This was because I had already had an HR interview as part of the interview process for another job position. An interview was scheduled. The second step was the interview with two individuals, the hiring manager and a team lead in that group. Lovely people. Started by a round of introductions where they shared a bit of their personal lives as well. Further, they asked about my experiences, motivations for this position, my achievements, and challenges, both with projects and people. They tried really hard by pushing me off-balance by questioning my career direction; mentioning that they thought I would like to go into PM or R&D. I explained to them that infact I do have background in those areas and reworded to better explain my perspective. When I pushed enthusiastically to learn about the machine, they corrected me by pointing out that ASML hires top talent to work on machines. I rebutted by saying that I agree that top talent works on the machines. However, the function requires at least a rudimentary understanding of the product to help communicate the various aspects with various functions. Last 20 mins (1 hour long interview) was given for me to ask questions and they answered candidly. My suggestion is to paint a picture for them, explain as a story, try to be positive, jolly and smiling. Be honest if you don't understand the machine or technology. And try to build some of understanding of how you will engage with them/the team/asml.
