What is the feeling of job security at Box?

      Box reviews

Overall, a great place to work

      Anonymous employee

      Business outlook

      Pros

      - Kind people. - Supportive working environment. - Competitive compensation. - Great perks. - One of the few remaining tech companies truly focused on employee wellbeing. - No layoffs despite challenging internal and external headwinds. Sacrifices have been made by leadership teams to ensure this. - No one can hide, everyone is expected to deliver at a high standard.

      Cons

      - Work-life balance. - Often confusing and constantly changing strategy in EMEA. - Sales is desperate for pipeline and this pressure is pushed onto functions which should be focused on longer-term initiatives/projects as well as customer success. - Box is an amazing product which sits in a crowded software category that is seldom seen as a priority for IT leaders. It is difficult to see how Box (for which you pay a high premium) will continue competing against Microsoft, Google and what they call ‘legacy’ ECM vendors.

Struggling to Adapt, Deaf to Employee Feedback

      Pros

-Great culture -Decent benefits, though missing 401k match -Decent flexibility in schedule -A solid product and historical customer base -No major layoffs in recent years

      Cons

-Communication: leadership is rapidly losing touch with the employee experience, and what the needs and pain points of their teams are. Box really suffers from a situation of "left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing." Even within GTM, teams which work together every day don't communicate, and their respective leaders aren't on the same page -Unclear strategy: leadership is pushing to move at a faster and faster pace, without reflecting on what is an isn't working. Employees are being asked to do more work, while not receiving better pay or benefits, and satisfaction is dropping fast -Lack of advancement opportunity: promotions move incredibly slowly, as does compensation - pay is decently benchmarked, but lagging behind the industry -Required 3x a week in-office, even though a poll of the company showed the majority of workers would prefer otherwise, an old-fashioned mindset

      Cons

We are a very lean organization, which is great for job security, but it can mean that there can be a lot on your plate

      Pros

Base pay is decent, as are the RSUs you get when you join. Hybrid, at least for now. Offices are OK places, which is good since you'll be spending more and more time there. They will pay part of your lunch.

      Cons

The company's culture is rapidly going downhill. Leadership seems to be moving to make this place as dreary as possible, where people are purely judged based on their metrics rather than how well they actually do the work. Morale is in the toilet and it shows in the number of outages occurring. People are just going through the motions and the level of toxicity is rising daily. RTO is being slowly ramped up. We went from 2x to 3x this year, and it's mandatory - managers say they are given attendance data from our badges and if you're not in the office 3x/wk you will feel it at performance time. It's almost certain they're going to force 4x/wk this year. There used to be transport cost benefit, but that got thrown away. They also took away the quarterly mental health days this year. Benefits that are left are pretty pathetic compared to other valley companies, let alone "leading" ones, and there are fewer every year. Raises are pitiful, and stock refreshes are rare (and tiny when they happen). Seems like the company is quite happy to give people the equivalent of a huge pay cut after four years; are they hoping people will just leave? Promotions are also a grueling slog and even if you get the title they won't even pay you the money for months afterwards. Stealth layoff last year in the guise of realignment and culling of low performers. Leadership seems to either be absent or obsessively micro-managing projects. The CEO is buried in details, sitting in design meetings approving the appearance of buttons. Meanwhile we bounce from moonshot to moonshot in the hope of somehow appearing relevant in the AI bubble. The stock price keeps falling so it's not working, but it's depressing to watch and morale-sapping.

Political heavy climate - a lot of scapegoating

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good pay & job safety (no big layoffs so far)

      Cons

The environment is highly political, with significant communication gaps between departments, which makes collaboration difficult. The sales strategy is very reactive, meaning that when things don’t go as planned, those in supporting roles often bear the brunt of the blame. Rather than focusing on solutions, the culture tends to prioritize assigning blame, leading to a frustrating and demotivating work atmosphere. Favoritism is also a noticeable issue, particularly in the UK. It’s clear that promotions and opportunities often go to those with the right connections rather than those who have demonstrated strong results. This creates an uneven playing field, where knowing the right people can lead to better deals, fewer responsibilities, and more resources, while others are left to struggle.

Leadership needs to step up and be honet

      Pros

Nice and smart colelagues depending on the team, good WLB

      Cons

leadership needs to start being honest. They keep freezeing payrises in Engineeging across all countries except Poland. Forcing people to quit and move the headcount to Poland instead of letting people go with dignity, severance and admit they are doing layoffs.

      Cons

Comp is lower than other tech companies in Bay Area. Some beureaucracy slows down engineering, though it helps make the right trade-offs in general. Could be improved. Large disparity between IRL and remote employees
