How are the career development opportunities at ASML?

      ASML reviews

      Great place to work

      Intern

      Business outlook

      Pros

great relaxed culture, a lot of opportunities for growth and many things to get involved in

      Cons

would be nice to have more locations in the Netherlands, at the moment hiring demand is low so there are not many job opportunities

(San Diego) Overall great company with minor flaws

      Senior mechanical engineer
      Current employee

      Business outlook

      Pros

Coworkers are smart and professional. Non toxic environment. The compensation is decently competitive though not leading compared to big tech firms. Generous bonus. The San Diego EUV technology is interesting to work on. There are opportunities for people to learn new career skills within their projects, and they can also job-hop around the company to try different roles. Mostly good work-life balance though some people have wake up early for calls to EU headquarters and have to plan around this. Hybrid work. I've been steadily trusted with more responsibilities and am thankful. Even though I could probably earn more elsewhere, the low stress, hybrid work, and high trust in my role keeps me here.

      Cons

While skill growth opportunities are good, career growth in terms of promotions and higher-than-normal raises is hard to come by. In response, the company has distributed career path charts showing what positions you could move into but it still isn't clear what actions employees can take to earn that move. Best chance is to build your skills, credibility, and networking in current role for several years, and then find an opening for a more senior role in an adjacent group and apply for transfer.

      Great experience

      Business outlook

      Pros

Great learning and career opportunity for students in a fast-paced, developing environment.

      Cons

The intern compensation could be a bit higher, considering the majority of the internships are full-time.

ASML was a good place to work!

      Business outlook

      Pros

ASML is a large company with fascinating projects to work on. The work is exciting, and the people are great. Additionally, there are excellent benefits, such as free access to Coursera and strong technical support.

      Cons

I joined this company in 2017 with high hopes, but my experience has deteriorated by 2023 due to rapid growth impacting culture and employee well-being. Work expectations are unclear, and the review process is confusing, often favoring certain personality types over others despite claims of supporting neurodiversity. The environment has become toxic, with prevalent backstabbing and managers treating employees like interchangeable parts rather than valued team members. Feedback and evaluations seem arbitrary, based more on office politics than actual performance. There is also an implicit bias in promotions, limiting growth opportunities for many employees. While I respect what the company once was, it now struggles with direction and fails to support professional growth effectively. I hope these issues can be addressed to restore its former reputation as a great place to work.

      Business outlook

      Pros

Fair compensation and benefits for early-career engineering, annual bonuses and raises, ample vacation and sick time, regular work with top talent

      Cons

With a very large company, have to play corporate politics at times to push for career growth and new opportunities. Less flexibility when it comes to disrupting established policies.
