August was a record-breaking month for both Cork and Dublin airports. Whether it was tourists coming to see Oasis or sun-seekers heading off on their summer holidays, passengers were mad for flying in August, with total numbers up +10% (year-on-year) at Cork Airport and +4% at Dublin Airport. Cork Airport remains on track for its busiest ever year, with a total of 1.1 million passengers having flown to and from Cork Airport across the summer months of June, July and August. Record days keep on coming at Dublin Airport too this year. Indeed, all 31 days in August saw more than 110,000 passengers passing through, with numbers topping 120,000 passengers on 21 of those days. They also reached 130,427 on its new busiest day - Sunday August 10 – which was the first day ever to exceed 130,000 passengers in the airport’s 85-year history.
👨✈️ Yesterday, five-year-old aviation superfan Finn from Malahide took off from Dublin Airport in full pilot uniform alongside his mam, Sarah, who was working the flight. To make it even more special, he travelled on his favourite aircraft - the Aer Lingus retro shamrock jet (EI-DVM) ✈️💚 A day to remember for this future flyer!
daa has received the first instalment of €2.35 million in funding from the European Commission this week under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) programme. This funding marks a major milestone in the delivery of the Dublin Airport Campus Electrification (DACE) project, which is designed to significantly reduce carbon emissions and support the transition to sustainable transport at Dublin Airport. The €2.35 million grant is part of a wider funding package secured through the CEF AFIF 2024–2025 call, which supports the deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). The total funding secured by daa for the DACE project is €4.7 million. “This is great news for the business and for our passengers,” said Kenny Jacobs, daa CEO. “We’re focused on making meaningful progress in sustainable airport operations, and this funding from the European Commission enables us to take another significant step forward. It’s a win for the environment, for innovation, and for Ireland’s contribution to a more sustainable transport future.”
