Happy National Intern Day! Today, we’re celebrating the interns who bring fresh perspectives, good energy and unique skills to our workforce every year. From high school to college graduate students, we’re proud to provide hands-on growth opportunities to the next generation of leaders in the energy industry – and we’re immensely grateful for all they contribute to our teams and communities.
We’re committed to providing a safe, inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. Our employee-led Business Resource Groups (BRGs) play a critical role in that mission, creating spaces where employees can bring their full selves, step into leadership roles, engage with our communities and build meaningful connections across the eight states we serve. Thank you to everyone who attended our BRG Fair this week – your energy is the real power behind our progress.
Today, we honor our veterans for their sacrifices and ongoing contributions to society. We take pride in being recognized as a top employer for the military community in the U.S. Approximately one in ten employees at Xcel Energy are veterans, with 50 of them holding senior leadership positions. Our Veterans have a chance to join our employee resource group, VETS as a way to network, address veteran issues, and access mental health and self-development resources. Hear from our dedicated VETS who partner with their community and empower their fellow veteran colleagues to uphold their legacy of service.
We believe diversity makes us stronger and more connected as a team. As we recognize Native American Heritage Month, our Tribal Wind employee resource group is helping employees build strong communities and a brighter energy future. Together, we can create a place where everyone belongs. Hear from our employees about how they are making a difference in the workplace and their communities.
Our partnership with small and diverse suppliers, including those owned by veterans, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others, contribute to the development of robust and sustainable communities. This approach guarantees that our products and services continue to meet our customers' evolving energy needs. In 2023, we invested over $1 billion with 5,400 certified small, diverse suppliers. Our numbers tell the story. Learn more in our 2023 Supplier Diversity Economic Impact Report.
Our hearts—and hands—are with the people in Georgia. Xcel Energy crews rolled out to join Georgia Power as they restore power to thousands impacted by Hurricane Helene. We’re in this together.
Establishing a sense of community in the workplace is essential for employees to feel seen, valued, and heard. Our Employee Resource Groups allow us to celebrate diversity and provide a space for individual expression--an important effort as we foster a workforce that that represents the communities we serve.
