Pros

- Staff discount of 30% is great if you're into vinyl, dvds, blu-ray or generic pop culture. - Friendly colleagues & supervisors.

Cons

- 1 day of "training" where you learn the basics of the till. The rest you have to learn on the job from other colleagues. Seems to be a lot of unspoken rules in HMV that they do not teach you on your first day! - Constant pressure from managers to "upsell" tote bags (which are €4.99) and harass customers about buying them instead of your regular plastic ones. Often, we have to lie about not having plastic bags to try and upsell. - Pushing e-receipts on customers and pestering them to fill out the Hear My Voice surveys. - Your stats (E-receipts numbers, till attach AKA tote bags and mailing list opt-ins) are constantly monitored and your manager will talk to you about them 1-1 everyday, pushing you to get the numbers up all while receiving absolutely no commission or extra perks for doing it. - Boring work on holidays such as New Year's Day. Since no one is in the shop, the manager would look for pointless "jobs" for you to do like dusting places you've never even seen. - Even on the least busiest days of the year figures matter, they don't care if no ones in the shop. Basically, it's all about making the figures look good for head office, with no regard to the actual sales assistants. All you hear managers go on about is "KPI's" "Minimum benchmark" "Till attach"

Pros

Discount is great if you collect music, not great for much else... Get the odd nice interaction with customer to bond over a product, other sales assistants were lovely, can't say the same for assistant managers.

Cons

Management pick and choose who they love and hate, and unfairly punish those who they dislike. It's impossible to understand their reasonings for it too.
