Pros

- the building has a back yard - green area -, where you can have your coffee or stay for a quick chat - stray cats come for food almost every day - some of them are friendly, and a couple of them became regulars; pretty cool if you like cats - salary is on par with the market, mostly because the building is on the city's outskirts and they're having a hard time even getting people to interview - offices are not open-space; they're set in rooms, 3-5 employees/room - "performance" bonus which everybody receives - Easter bonus and chocolate

Cons

- the building has a manually activated security system - employees must arm/disarm the alarm; this is a strange responsibility to have, as non-administrative employee - the door to the mess hall never gets shut when people eat, resulting in having the whole building smell of whatever fish or onion they've eaten, for a couple hours afterwards - loud colleagues, who must share every detail of their dentist/doctor visit, or what their child has been doing - loudly (i.e. you can hear them from 2 rooms over) - attention-seeking colleagues, who even monopolize technical meetings to share their personal stories (e.g. crying about a future dentist visit because you have to take out a tooth for more than 10 minutes of a daily stand-up meeting which usually takes at most 20 minutes) - the colleagues that have been there for a very long time are very entitled. You must laugh when they laugh, eat when they eat, and listen to their stories. If one of them gets offended because you ignored one of their pathetic jokes, upper management will drag you into an urgent meeting to debate what's wrong with you. This is very unprofessional, and disparaging. - there is no on-boarding procedure. As "initial training", I surfed their Confluence pages for a couple weeks, and that was it. - no development methodology is followed - it's some sort of grab what you want and work on that - doesn't matter if it breaks the build or it's useless or whatever - just do what you want, and get sulky and offended otherwise. - Jenkins is used, but ignored by "very senior" colleagues when it breaks, rendering the tool useless - half working build, what to do with that? ! If what you're looking for is coasting along, not doing much work, having 2h-long lunches, sharing every detail of your personal life while gossiping about every possible thing and person, then this is perfect for you. If you already have some arse-kissing skills, you'll be super-perfect. ! If you're actually interested in furthering your career and not wasting your time, steer clear from this.

Learned to love the German style

Pros

- over time, grown to love the "german" style -> efficient, to the point, if you have a problem, you get it fixed. It's that simple. Shoutout to the sysadmins, didn't have the time to express my thanks for everything. - very friendly colleagues, at least once you get to know them. At times, I felt like I was adopted in a second family. - projects are oriented towards engineering (semiconductors, usually). This was also a motivating factor to do my job well, as I'm an engineer at heart, even if I worked as a Software Developer and maybe you have to focus on other functionality, but the thought that what I did could have an impact on how the components are produced was all the motivation I needed.

Cons

- sometimes some projects are started with the mentality of "it's only for a few months, then it will not be used anymore". Three years after, you have to refactor half the code because of that.
