Stewardship is a foreign concept here.

Pros

None anymore, thanks to upper management.

Cons

Anyone interested in working for the United Methodist Children’s Home (UMCH) should consider the following: 1) UMCH is currently running a multi-million dollar annual budget deficit. At its current rate of income and spending this organization will be bankrupt within a decade or less. 2) In July of this year UMCH management carried out their third mass layoff since 2010. In two out of three of these layoffs programs that serve children in foster care were eliminated, forcing the children (many of whom are already suffering from various forms of emotional and/or physical trauma) to be relocated to other facilities, foster homes, etc. One of these programs, the Nurturing Connections Second Chance Program, served teen mothers and their babies; therefore in this case not only the moms but also the babies were forced to relocate after the program serving them was shut down by UMCH management. Another program that was eliminated provided summer camp and afterschool care for children whose parents cannot afford any other summer/aftercare programs. 3) In the most recent mass layoff (July 2013) many employees with 10 years or more of service saw their jobs eliminated, including several who were 5 years or less from retirement. Two of these employees had worked for UMCH for more than 25 years and both of them lived on campus; thus not only did UMCH management eliminate their jobs but management also evicted these employees and their families from their homes, leaving them both jobless AND homeless. If you are looking for a stable, long-term employment arrangement think long and hard before you take any job with The United Methodist Children’s Home. This organization has a track record of financial mismanagement and management treats employees as expendable commodities.

Pros

It looks beautiful from the outside

Cons

Where to start, Director, VP's and CEO are sneaky and out for themselves. Money is mishandled, its okay to spent crazy amounts on food for meetings, updating offices for new staff but can't find it in the budget to pay staff. New employees are paid the going rate when hired but long time employees are living in poverty. Polices are outdated or not even followed. The lazy get promoted, very sad to see high paid directors sitting in meetings on their Facebook page or texting friends and passing work along to other, because they can.You are overworked but no overtime is given, some people get comp. time but don't have time to take it. It is a very toxic environment

Pros

Keeps these kids off the street, sort of

Cons

This is a place that should offer support and teach the resident adolescents proper ways to live, however it is a place that many teens would love - they can come and go anytime, go to school or not, do as they are told or not, do drugs, have weapons (often because they feel unsafe from those on campus with them). The staff is too small, or too wrapped up in the politics; regardless the residents' health, livelihood, and future are being tossed to the side like trash. It is not a place fit to bear the word Methodist in its title. Sad, but true.
