Pros

Average Pay, Decent Benefits, and Good PTO. PTO come with a huge set back, as you need to BEG for days off.

Cons

Wawanesa is a horrid place to work. The morale is so low it is nauseating. There were rumors of this company once being decent, but what I have seen has been flabbergasting. If you consider working here be forewarned, and read the reviews. First the entire claims department is inconsistent. There are supervisors here who just need to retire or be let go. The facet over the wrong minutia, and will micromanage you to death. In all seriousness, I have witnessed people go through mental and emotional breakdowns due to the stress. The supervisors lack satisfactory leadership qualities. They are condescending and rude, in supplement they will demean you. Nothing is transparent here. Coverage and liability investigation requirements change on a “case by case” basis. You can never get acclimated to the process, because there is not distinct process. The supervisors and or managers do not identify with a specific guidelines, so the adjusters are literally “walking on eggshells” trying not to generate any complaints. Second the volume of claims is outrageous. Do not let them fool you; they are as busy as any other insurance company. Wawanesa carries all the stigmas that any other insurance company subjected to. If you think Mercury of GEICO was busy, believe Wawanesa is a different kind of busy. Wawanesa will have you complete the most outlandish tasks. Their habits lack foundation and theory. Be advised that you will be lost and overwhelmed. Third, Wawanesa has no support. The supervisors will be the first people to through their adjusters under the bus if needed. Wawanesa has no guidelines, therefore gauging if you are performing the job right or wrong is ambivalent. Heaven forbid you mess up, for you will be ridiculed beyond embarrassment. There is no time to get adjusted, and they expect you to know how to do the job. Fourth, there is no room for improvement. Wawanesa offers a better then average in pay. This makes them appealing when they steal adjusters from other companies. Wawanesa will lure you with their promises and pay, however YOU WILL BE STUCK. If they stole you because of your experience and training, rest assure they will do the same for positions that are desirable in your future. They don’t waste money in training and building their staff. Wawanesa will apprehend employees from different companies who have been well trained already. Finally, their claims software interface is laughable. I have never used an application so antiquated and disorganized. Nothing is second nature, and there are hundreds of flaws for the most critical parts of the job. This may not sound like an impactful notion, however it definitely adds to the stress. Don’t want to be pessimistic but you need to hear the truth. If I had seen the reviews prior to my employment, I would have ran the other way. P.S. They make you park on the street if your a new employee!

Pros

Compensation Benefits (medical and dental- for now) DCPP Location

Cons

I was approached by my leader several months prior that the recruitment team (HR) at head office was ‘looking to improve Glassdoor ratings’ for the last little while. Therefore, leaders from all regions were asked to speak to employees who would be willing to write a positive review. Please be aware that I have been with the organization for over a year. Prior to this ‘ask’ , the ratings were hovering around 2.5 stars. Left the organization due to many issues with management, lack of transparency and confusing changes. Many new initiatives were launched without proper planning and communication. Management: Older leadership team in terms of experience. Many have worked at the company since high school or university. Not as open to new ideas or how competitors stay relevant in the market. This relates to the VPs to Directors to Managers and Supervisors.

Pros

-The money and benefits are the only possible reason anyone would or should work here - but as you know - money does NOT buy happiness. No one ever sticks around long enough (10 years) to see the pension. -Is better than the overly micro-managed Geico but even Geico doesn't fire without reason. Wawanesa is a bully's playground. With their main office in Canada, no one knows what's going on. -The grass seems greener but it's not. Do not apply unless you're out of ideas and desperate.

Cons

-No loyalty. Once upper management or your supervisor decides they don't like you, you are out. The turn around here is huge. Within less than a year 30 new people were hired for inside liability. They claim 50% of their workers have been at the company for years but what they don't tell you is that new comers are lucky to make it through the first year. Do NOT have an opinion if you want to survive. Do your job, come to work, and shut your mouth. -No transparency. No one has any idea what is going on. Whether it be system errors or how to properly transfer files. Everyone has a different method or a different answer. -"Reviews" leave all the power with your supervisor. Your supervisor will make or break you here. Unfortunately 99% of them are terrible and should have been fired a long time ago. This is where the cliquey high school part really comes into play. Everything you do is documented. If you sneeze the wrong way THAT will go in your file. The purpose of a review is not to help the adjuster but to keep them down. -High amount of claims received per month with no sympathy for those who can't keep up. -Their systems are archaic with more roles being added for inside liability adjusters daily. They are currently trying to make everything tracked. More responsibilities have been handed over to the adjusters like calling for rental, doing your own clerical work (ordering police reports, searching through ISO). -Monitoring. As I've said before. Do not have a personality. Everything you do is listened to and monitored. -Growth. There is no growth at this company unless you jump through necessary hoops and keep your head down. -Training. Absolutely abhorrent. They throw adjusters into their archaic system - new and old - then expect them to know it. There is no true training at Wawanesa. Most supervisors don't know what's going on and these are the people they have teaching the newbies coming in. It's laughable. Once a new person comes to Wawanesa you'll see their coworkers going completely out of their way to help them. The coworkers do not get paid for this or praised for this. This is not in their reviews. It's simply expected of them and it shouldn't be. Depending on your supervisor they may or may not help you settle in. Most of the time they won't help. They will expect you to know everything. -Disgruntled employees. You will hear coworkers talking about how terrible the company is or you'll physically see how depressed people are walking around. The atmosphere at this company is terrible and will suck out your soul. -No Christmas bonus or bonuses at all for that matter. No true INCENTIVES that most companies have - even Anchor General has a Christmas bonus of some sort and they are known as being terrible. It just goes to show that something minor like this does accurate portray how much the company doesn't care. -You park all the way across the street if you are new. No one tells anyone this information before they hire you. KEEP FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS. DON'T LET THE MAN KEEP YOU DOWN! There is MORE to life than a cubicle prison and you don't want a company that doesn't value YOU or appreciate YOU. We are all human and we all need to make the best of the one life we have! I invite everyone who has worked here to post your own opinions as well!
