Pros

Food, snacks and drinks Good people (if you are on a good team) Amazing benefits

Cons

Terrible new CEO (Dermot) who came from TripAdvisor and changed everything for the worse. He got rid of the amazing management team which had years of experience in order to bring in his friends who have NO management and NO industry experience with tours and activities. He truly does not get it and I watched my colleagues become more and more undervalued and depressed as time went on. No growth, no company culture. It is now a sad, sad place to work run by a man who truly does not give a damn about you.

I’m sorry to hear you’re unhappy. I know change is hard, but in our case it was necessary. We needed to refocus on our business as a marketplace, so we did – and that change catalyzed our largest-ever growth phase (we’ve doubled TA bookings, and we’re leading TA’s non-hotel revenue growth of 26%). That’s a testament to every person on our team, not least of all our senior leadership. These leaders have long, successful track records in building online travel marketplaces; that’s why they’re here, and along with their teams, they’ve excelled by every measure. I know our San Francisco social team puts a lot of effort into culture (regular pop-ups, events and outings; a great food and beverage program; games/activities areas around the office). It’s an office-wide effort, and much of what they’ve worked on has been at the request of the San Francisco team. We encourage all employees to reach out with ideas and recommendations. We spend too much of our time at the office to be as unhappy as you sound. Our updated approach to legacy business methods has accelerated our growth and we’re headed in an exciting new direction. We’re committed to continuing in this direction and equally committed to those invested in taking this journey with us. We in fact care very much about the happiness of our people, and I’d be happy to discuss with you at any time, as would your HR business partner. Dermot

Pros

Thanks to TripAdvisor a recognized brand, very nice office in a good location, great vibe and nice people in the sales department

Cons

Bad managers with low social skills and zero leadership qualities pushing their way up and make talented people leave Micro management, no trust in employees, bullying I was excited in the beginning but soon I found it extremely hard to come to work because the atmosphere was depressing and toxic, managers were backbiting about team members Oldschool management: no appreciation, no motivation, no drive to succeed, very top-down Surprised there are still people left in the London office. To everyone thinking about applying: look somewhere else!

We understand how important career growth is, and there’s a ton of opportunity in a business growing as rapidly as ours. I’d strongly encourage you to speak to your manager or your HR business partner about your options, whether that’s one of our many learning and development programs, or the possibility of another role outside of the supply team. We have open roles in many areas of the business, and TripAdvisor is a big supporter of internal mobility. The managers on our team hold regular one-to-ones with their team members, in addition to our quarterly and annual review programs. I know feedback like this is vital to career development, and if you don’t feel what you’re getting is enough, please feel free to speak to me, your manager, or HR about this. We’d be happy to come up with a process that’s right for you. -Laura Saum, VP, Supply
