Not a Family Company!

Pros

Small growing company... ( I had to put in at least 5 words here.)

Cons

Toxic work environment - Senior leadership constantly berates and belittles employees if you don't agree with them. Not a Family conscience company. - You will work until you bleed and then they expect you to work more. Absolutely the truth. The driver managers are worked to death and treated just as badly. The IT department is a joke 3 Directors in under 2 years. They were worked to death and given no support from the Executives. Transportation executive is an outright egotistical self absorbed rude man. He treats his employees like slaves. Virtually no vacation... 5 days given.. this is a pure joke. They don't believe in holidays you can count almost on 1 hand how many holidays the company observes. Attrition problems in almost all area's because they treat their employees so badly. No CAREER GROWTH - This is not a company to go to and expect to grow your career. All of the posts on this companies page are from HR who backstab the employees at the first chance they get. You need to remember the HR department for every company works for the executives not the employees. Not many actually like their job here but they are too afraid to admit it because of the wrath from the executives.

Updike Distribution Logistics Response

Thank you for your review of Updike Distribution Logistics. We believe strongly in our culture and our positive and rewarding work environment. We have many loyal employees, about 20% of our employees have been with us over 5 years. In addition, just this past year we promoted 22 employees. We stand by “our growth is your growth” and we have a management team who strives to coach and mentor their highest-performing employees. Our growth, like any other growing organization, has oftentimes presented us with some unique challenges, but those are the areas we look at more as opportunities to improve. We like the challenge and look to hire employees who also thrive when faced challenges. We learn more through challenges, right? We encourage all employees to give their feedback in whatever forum they feel most comfortable. We have some employees who will walk unannounced into the executive’s offices and give it face-to-face (they don’t belittle when employees do this by the way, they enjoy speaking with our employees), others may direct it at their manager, or the surveys our human resources team send out, or on external review boards such as Glassdoor. Whether you are in Information Technology, Transportation, Warehousing, Sales, and yes, even Human Resources (we are employees, too) – we encourage all our employees to give their feedback. Our vacation allotments are standard across our industry with 1 week after the first year, 2 weeks after 2 years, and 3 weeks after 5 years. We also offer paid sick leave, we follow state law so employees receive 24-40 hours of paid sick leave. In addition, for those who work in a role where we can allow flexibility, we offer flexible work schedules to allow employees to leave early to attend their kids swim lessons, volunteer with their favorite charitable organization, work from home when their children are ill, and various other reasons. For those positions that aren’t as flexible within our organization and may not allow flexible schedules, when time off is needed – it is usually granted. We believe all employees need to refresh and come back to work reenergized. Our drivers especially love the consistent home time. Our management philosophy is that we are all working managers. It is not unusual for a manager to cover a shift, whether it be filling in for a forklift operator, customer service representative, or work a driver manager role for the day. We have conservative roots, we spend wisely, we run lean. We do this to give our employees a stable paycheck. They have families who they need to support and we recognize we have an important responsibility to ensure they continue to support them with as little worry as possible. We hope this response provides clarity on your concerns. Again, thank you for your review.

Pros

The people you work with are cool depending on what location you are at.

Cons

No advancement HR is no help. too much favoritism going on. When I was asking for a raise when I found out the new hires are getting paid more they told me it's better if I just leave the company and look for a better paying job said by HR. And the thing is why would you pay someone with no knowledge or wearhouse experience more then they guy who's been there for FIVE Years? And not even bump they pay to the same amount.

Thank you for your feedback. Without getting too much in detail about associates pay, Updike does have a lot of tenured, loyal associates and some of those associates are capped. We do offer lump sum merit bonuses for those who are capped based on performance on an annual basis. In order for us to remain as competitive as possible in addition to the state minimum wage increases we saw in some of the states we operate in, we chose to give a small bump in pay in some of our positions. We really work hard to make it as fair and equitable as possible and bump the rates of some of our associates to avoid any pay inequities. I would love an opportunity to speak with you about your concerns as the message you were told is certainly concerning on my end and possibly could have been miscommunicated or misunderstood. We pay for performance of the individual and the company. Please call our corporate office and ask for Becky.
