Pros

Pay is decent, in particular given the location. Benefits such as health insurance (for the whole family) and pension contributions are among the best available.

Cons

This is not a tech company, despite their best efforts to look like one. Reward and recognition are not correlated with good work, but rather with saying the right things, agreeing with the right people, and not disagreeing with the wrong people. Company structure is very hierarchical and very siloed. It's hard to get things done without lots of red tape. Annual leave starts at 22 days and reaches 25 after five years of employment. Not the absolute minimum, but also not much more. Flexibility is mostly a one-way street: Depending on your team or role, you might need to give up quite a few weekend days, for free. There is no compensation formally in place for weekend work - "come in late on Monday" is normally the best you can hope for. This is hit and miss, though, as it very much depends on your manager. There's an undertone of a lack of professionalism throughout the company, particularly at management level. Several of the managers (and indeed others) have never worked anywhere else and are where they are because they have prioritised getting promoted over delivering quality work. Information flows primarily through gossip.

Pros

Free fruit Work from home option (kind of)

Cons

No job security, even when full time permanent. Total lack of logic in work placement. Nobody is in the right position. No real world training or budget for same. Office politics rules. Forced fake smiles, even more extreme than any other employer. Expected to work strange hours. Management are clueless and unqualified. Irish office is just a farce. Expect to be treated like you are lucky to be viewed by your US overlords. Bate and switch hiring at a despicable level. Management shuffle each other to avoid any responsibility. Colleagues will tell you to just put up and shut up.

Very PR focused and political

Pros

Hybrid working and some very good people within teams. Health insurance and pension provided.

Cons

The company spends a lot of time focusing on achieving workplace awards, good PR and photo's. Being unwilling to take a photo was rarely well received. Leaders do not always understand the systems and the work involved in developing and maintaining these systems. As a result deadlines can be unrealistic. There is more focus on hitting the deadline than the quality of what is being delivered. Personally I always had the feeling of being excessively monitored at Unum.
