Pros

Relaxed work environment. Choose your own hours and work as many as you want. If hired as part time you can convert to full time later if you choose to do so.

Cons

Communication is poor throughout the company. A lot of decisions to do things are made last minute. There's not much work to do unless you seek for more yourself. Hourly pay is not enough for the job. Sometimes you feel like you're working with a team, most you feel like you're working as an individual. A ping pong table right in the middle of the office.

Great first job and little else

Pros

Great place to learn about photography and work with some cool people. The vendors tend to be awesome people and willing to train you (more than the company itself does). Employee discounts are awesome. Some of the customers are damn cool too, and you'll get the opportunity to rub elbows with some big names in the photo world. Really, in spite of this being an overall negative review, it's a good first job.

Cons

Beware of any company that calls itself "like a family", as they will expect you to sacrifice your sanity and well-being for little to no gain. There's a near-zero possibility of advancement unless you become a favorite of management. Incompetent but "in" employees are never punished for their incompetence, but competent, "out" employees are; nepotism is rampant. Salaried employees are expected to respond to emails off the clock, and they'll even try to suck in hourly employees to do the same thing. Wages and commissions are a joke, and benefits get worse every year. It's basically working at Target except with expensive, shiny stuff instead of clothes. Do your 3-5 years here and find a better job.

Ok for Photo Student for maybe a year or 2. But no more.

Pros

This is a decent place for students who can work in the store for a few years, have access to equipment, meet manufacturer's reps, meet established photographers, etc. to build connections.

Cons

Bare bones benefits, no advancement, no career guidance, below average salaries, no training save for store employees who get trained by manufacturers. Worse than micromanaged, pico-managed if there is such a thing. Family squabbles constantly squeeze employees between totally conflicting directives and put the employees in the middle.
