Pros

The opportunity: it really felt like I was part of something exciting and with great potential. Amazing to work closely with very talented teams across the globe, in China especially, whilst still experiencing a real start up feel. Culture seemed nice at first.

Cons

The excitement quickly turned out to be fake- leadership was constantly on edge, sacking & purging great people all the time + really giving the impression they couldn't care less. 'It's all about the needs of the business' was the only explanation. The company ran on totally unrealistic forecasts, surely to raise even more finance.. the team was expected to deliver & was worked into the ground (overtime/weekends).. followed by one round of layoffs after another when these absurd expectations were not met. During the interview I was asked for names of tons of people I worked with during my career- I wonder whether these people were contacted against my consent?

Pros

Free breakfast Some staff members are extremely nice

Cons

I left a job I liked and was doing well in after being sold the start up dream and the chance for greater responsibility and freedom to succeed. Upon arrival it was unclear exactly what the job role actually entailed and it was constantly changed during my time. Speaking to other staff members, they didn't have a clue either exactly what their role exactly was. Any positivity I took from my previous workplace was squashed a few weeks in. Weekly huddles and anonymous Q&As revealed my colleagues to have an air of fear and there was a feeling of uncertainty in the office. Following a mass staff redundancy in June (referred to by many as the Red Wedding of culls thanks to the scale) no one felt secure, and given that many had families, or indeed London rent to pay, this was understandable. My job role changed about three times during my time, so I was unable to throw myself into the position and demonstrate my full ability. Despite being told I had surpassed every task I was set, I was culled on the spot and had to leave the same day due to 'budget constraints.' I wouldn't recommend anyone to leave their job for this company. I think deep down management intend to mean well but sadly don't have a clue how to manage people's careers or indeed brand themselves to students (who are drawn to fun, down to earth and clickable services). Don't take the gamble to join this company unless you are sure.
