Pros

Great teams at the bottom of the chain of command. Many intelligent, motivated, and excited people who care about solar, fighting climate change, and creating new standards for a young industry. Strata is a regional leader in O&M, proven by it's projects and scope. Middle management is truly invested in the personal and professional success of their employees. The health insurance is decent, and starting vacation allocation is slightly above average. Plenty of opportunity for advancement- half the organization has departed in the last six months through a combination of better offers, poor C Suite cultural decisions, and layoffs. Office is within steps of a brewery, so you can drink your sorrows away at the end of the work day.

Cons

The company is governed by edict of the CEO, Markus Wilhelm. Employee feedback on cultural decisions is solicited, and largely ignored, through a rotational council of management and senior departmental staff. Leadership decisions related to the treatment of employees frequently seem reactionary and directly linked to the CEO's pride. Low level employees are underpaid and laid off, while executives are simultaneously awarded six figure bonuses. The "positive environmental impact" of the company is used as rationale for low salaries. Field technicians are extremely underpaid for the level of work and expertise they have, and the poor and dangerous weather and working conditions they are exposed to. Office workers were called back to the office at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in one of the most heavily impacted counties in North Carolina, with reassurances of their safety through largely theatrical safety measures that do nothing to address the airborne nature of virus. Middle and upper management was never allowed to work from home in the first place. Little to no motive was given for the recall, but common theories hinge on the expensive rent being paid for the company's new office, or paranoia based in recent high profile executive departures to form new start up ventures. Employees were openly asked in a company wide town hall to assess if they would like to continue working at Strata during the height of COVID related concerns if they disagreed with the way the company was handling the pandemic. After asking employees to endanger their health to satisfy the whims of the CEO, employees' dedication and work ethic was questioned with the institution of mandatory 9-5 work hours. Your office entry/exit times will be monitored via collected data, and you will be questioned on your work hours by upper management accordingly. Over the last year, many long term employees have departed the company, citing burnout, better pay, improved benefits, and concerns about handling of COVID-19. These gaping organizational vacancies have proven hard to fill due to the company's insistence on relocation and in office work in a remote working world. These obvious problems apparently fall on deaf ears in the C Suite. Strata is a great place to start or boost your career in the solar industry. Don't plan on working here for long unless you are ready to burn out.

Pros

Lots of work in the pipeline so this company will be around for a few more years, as long as the Warsaw project does not fail. If it does they are immediately bankrupt. HUGE debt with this company - very risky long term.

Cons

Micro managing taken to an unbelievable extreme. Video cameras with sound recording all employees EVEN AT LUNCH TIME! If you want office supplies, bring your own, they do not even supply pens and note pads. NOTHING is confidential in this HR dept. Pay is consistently 25-30% below market, benefits are outrageously expensive, no retirement plan, and future business is dependent on tax benefits staying in place.

Pros

Hmm? If you need the work, they have that availability! Maybe the best thing they do, is the contribution to green energies and the highest positions on the 'totem pole' are generally well cared for employees for as long as they do their job well and are completely dedicated to the extent of neglect in other arenas of their private lives.

Cons

I don't suggest this company as a career opportunity, in this case they sit in the lowest on the 'totem pole'. When it came to verbal abuse from the higher ups, on a normal day it was extreme and derogatory in nature...and on a bad day it was literally inhumane. It was a rarity to see a higher up without arrogance and egocentric behaviors, and if you were just a basic field employee, you were nothing more than a peon to them and you were not worth any respect whatsoever. I would say I only knew maybe three in the strata 'elite' group that actually showed common decency for other people. I even knew a superintendent that was under threat of losing his position unless he developed a ruthless demeanor that is entirely rude to any person under him. As it was mentioned before, everybody is under video, and sound surveillance which may even be unconstitutional. Overall, I never have worked for a company where the majority of management group were heartless in their treatment to others, and I do urged majority of the individuals that work under this management, to do one the three things...seek better employment options if possible, or...go on strike until the wage rates are competitive and this company sees you as a human being and not something else on the lines of a monkey or slave, and/or file a class action lawsuit based on the humanities of this company, almost any lawyer would do it 'pro bono', and do video record. This company needs to be taught some valuable lessons in ethics and work ethics. I myself, at my position, was very little did I have to personally deal with the terrible mannerism of this company and on both ends I did see their encouragement to promote abusive behavior and give it. Without any threats or awareness, it was my personal decision to quietly leave this company, I had seen enough in the couple of years I worked there!
