Pros

Stellar Science is a wonderful place to work for software developers dedicated to their craft. The staff is top-notch, and will push anyone to improve. The organization is very flat. I am not alone in having worked on one project as the lead, and another as a worker bee, where the other project's lead was one of my project's worker bees. The company tries very hard to keep employees happy. Performance reviews are as much about you reviewing the company as them reviewing you. Your desires about the type of work and kind of projects are taken into account when assigning your work. They can't always create a perfect match, of course, but they do make an effort.

Cons

If you want to climb the corporate ladder, this isn't the place. This is not a typical stove pipped organization with department heads and layers of management. You are expected to be self motivated. But are those cons? It depends on you.

Pros

Smaller company where everyone looks out for each other and is dedicated to putting out good code and software.

Cons

Growing quickly in terms of work and people, so some things are figured out along the way. But not a real downside.

Pros

This is a great company for people who are passionate about great code and solving interesting scientific problems. There is always active discussion amongst employees about the best coding paradigms or infrastructure improvements, and management is receptive to good ideas. Individual employees are given a lot of independence to work without having to follow oppressive management or process. Management tries hard to consider individuals strengths and preferences in their work assignments. There are plenty of avenues for advancement for talented, motivated employees.

Cons

There can be a learning curve at first for new employees to figure out their place in the company. Management is actively trying to make onboarding easier. Part of the problem in this regard has been growing pains of rapid growth from small to medium company size which has required new company infrastructure to be developed.
