Pros

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my team, and the other teams at the company. Big focus on work/life balance, which is great, especially since you tend to wear a few more hats in a startup environment than you would at a more established company. Management has created new career paths for growth within the company, and constant face-to-face gives you a great pipeline to pitch ideas and help the company grow. You have the ability to affect change and the vision and direction of your team, which is fantastic. The growth and planned path for the company has been great. Also, free snacks! And happy hour!

Cons

It can be higher stress due to the aforementioned wearing of many hats, but there is a great support system for when you're busy. You can also lose sight of what the other departments are up to, so that would be nice to return to hearing about. Still no 401K but it's in the works!

Pros

This company works in an insanely exciting space. They have online products and services to help entrepreneurs at various stages of launching a company. No matter what function you serve, you'll be helping to launch new companies all the time. The company is trying to build something very big, but in a fundamental way. No investors, debt-free, and tight financial management keeps the business healthy. There's no chase for investor money like other startups - there's a true focus on growing a sustainable business. Career growth potential is unlimited here, but it is very much self-driven. Employee development guidance is getting better, but has a long way to go. Recognition/reward often doesn't occur until there's 1+ year of strong performance and loyalty. 1 year here is like 2-3 years of experience anywhere else. Work-life balance is taken very seriously. Many employees and executives have families and understand that working at a startup shouldn't ruin your life. Some nice perks include weekly work-from-home days, unlimited vacation, scheduled "breaks" around holidays, decent benefits, and company events that don't suck. The team at Startups.co are genuinely great people. They've done a great job of cultivating a culture of people who generally like working with each other - and even more surprisingly, are real friends outside of work. Every employee is granted stock, and it's a clean structure with none of the complexities or harsh tax side-effects of typical startup equity/options. Everyone has a piece of the upside. After being with the company through several years, things generally seem to get better every year as the company/culture/team grow.

Cons

This is a cash-flow-driven company, so resources can be scarce relative to the goals/tasks that need to be accomplished. Executive priorities and decisions seem to change rapidly, and are not always fully communicated. It can be difficult to fully understand what's happening across the company. The team skews younger and is often "figuring it out" as they go along. The team is generally small compared to the volume of business so it can be stressful handling everything that needs to be done.

Pros

If you're happy with being manipulated, lied to, asked to lie on behalf of the company, this is your shop

Cons

Every element of working with this company was a mistake. It is now a blip on my resume that I have to try and explain. The COO will instruct you to lie to prospects and I'm not even close to kidding.
