Worst Administration

Pros

Direct staff are pretty great.

Cons

Administration is one of the worst, they accuse people of things without finding out the whole story. The second in command wrote me up with a 1 day unpaid suspension 2 weeks after I tested positive with COVID because she assumed that I had come to work sick but I had zero true COVID symptoms and it wasn’t until my nose started running that I immediately left work and got tested. The administration is rude, uncaring, and untrusting. One of the worst places I have ever worked with arbitrary rules that constantly change and fear driven management tactics.

High expectations, terrible salary

Pros

This is a place to get your foot in the door, decide if you want to work in libraries long term. Most employees are looking elsewhere, as there are few positions within the system that are worth staying more than 6 months to 2 years.

Cons

The lowest paid employees--especially circulation assistants and information specialists-- are regularly expected to work above their pay grade. Pay is insulting to begin with. HR does not negotiate salary with these employees, and all increases over the minimum pay are denied by the Director of HR (who makes six figures). Admin is out of touch with the public service employees and does not take their concerns or complaints seriously. Branch mangers, regional managers do what they can, but are often overworked themselves and are constantly facing understaffing due to the low salary and poor working conditions.

Pros

Coworkers, part-time benefits, and location is beautiful

Cons

The administration have little to no regard for the emotional and physical well-being of the staff - especially people lower on the totem pole. Direct coworkers are the best people I've ever worked with. Turnover is so high, they can't keep the library staffed ever because people are constantly leaving to find better jobs. There are no opportunities for growth or mobility in the library. The job description on the ad and the work you end up doing are completely imbalanced.
