Pros

You basically work for yourself, and you have a job. Take time off as long as you're bringing in the cash for the CEO, but don't plan on him covering even a cup of coffee for your clients.

Cons

No communication within company, discrimination, workplace bullies, and CEO knows nothing about true leadership. Force and threats are his only leverage. The company is only surviving because of some great engineers, however they all work independently. This causes a cut throat and competitive environment with co-workers verses teamwork. Come as you are, and swim for your life in a sea of sharks.

Pros

I have been employed by Spectrum Engineers for over 11 years now and have witnessed this firm grow into more than a larger office. Your opportunity for growth here is only limited by you, the individual. As a BIM operator here at Spectrum Engineers, you are in full control of your salary. There is no review system, you simply take one of the approved tests or a classes and you receive a raise. You will also have the chance for periodic bonuses by taking the updated tests or by other means. The types of projects you will work on range from large healthcare, higher education and government, to houses of worship, theatrical, medium voltage and many other types of projects with various scopes, so there is little chance that you feel stagnant. You will have the chance to work with, in my opinion, the best Engineers, Designers, BIM staff and Admin department that perhaps you have ever experienced. We maintain the latest software and hardware packages for our workstations. Generally, you control your workload, but you can take on more if you think you can handle it. At least 99% of the projects we work on are in Revit and are even taken further during design with Navisworks Manage and various other software packages. Your ideas and opinion matters here as well, not only to your peers and engineers you work with, but also to our CEO. He will take the time out of his day to sit with you and have a conversation with you, whether it is just to shoot the breeze, or if you have any type of problem or concern, and resolve it. This is by far the most flexible place to work that I have ever seen or heard of to date. There is so much more I can go on about, but if you are a high energy, go getting, willing to take on challenges and propel yourself daily in an ever evolving environment and have control over your outcome and quality of life, then this is the best place for you.

Cons

There are not too many cons I can think of here with exception to be prepared to work. There will be times, like with any of the project types we work on, that you will need to step up and work overtime to complete to meet the deadline, but you will usually know way ahead of time that this is going to happen.

Pros

There are many highly experienced and very knowledgeable Engineers that work for Spectrum.

Cons

Lack of direction, communication, education, training, and professional performance metrics. It is difficult for professional growth within an organization whose professional metrics are rooted in religious views.

Spectrum has worked hard to identify some of these areas as areas of improvement, we have implemented many training programs and performance metrics. We have also created a human resource department to help enhance and increase employee satisfaction and efficiency. We appreciated this feedback and look forward to the further development of our company as an industry leading employer.
