Pros

-The company does amazing work for the Early Childhood Field and is continuously growing and advancing. -The company offers great medical benefits for a low cost -A lot of opportunity on continuous education -Employees within the company are great

Cons

-Although the company has a great mission and values and does great work, the management of employees suffers. -Overworked for the pay especially if you have experience with special needs or Spanish speaking -In my position, during my initial interview, they told me I'd only have to travel out of Phoenix 3-4 times per month, I was actually traveling 6-8 times per month. -My position was 90% computer and travel based and the company refused to allow us to work from home even though we could do the work from any computer with an internet connection. There were several days where you'd drive 20-30 minutes to go into the office just to type a report into Word. -Wear and tear on your car. -HR management team is almost clueless and hardly helps you -I was told I would get an exit interview. When going in for my exit interview, it was literally an explanation of my Cobra benefits. When I tried to provide feedback in my exit interview, they stared blankly at me and didn't take any notes and then proceeded to tell me I'd get a "survey" in my email for the exit interview and I never received it. -Although this is an Early Childhood company, they do not offer Maternity leave

Pros

-Good experience to build up resume -Great co-workers -Generally a friendly atmosphere

Cons

-Compensation is low and non-negotiable. -Annual raises are 1% and designed so that the only eligible employees have to be there for over a year. -Benefits are mediocre at best. -Training is a joke. "Shadowing" does not cut it for the amount of legal documentation required. -NO WORK/LIFE BALANCE. 3 sick days and 10 PTO days mean nothing when it's almost impossible to use them. All clients have to be covered by a coworker or made up. Their contract with CPS also means employees must sacrifice personal time to accommodate any case changes.

Pros

The company is great. The job is not. SWHD is making a lot of great strides in providing quality family services. Decent benefits. My shift works perfectly for me, but I have heard others complain that their schedule is less flexible. Work for the company, DO NOT work as a CDS or CDA - I would even heavily warn you to stay away from the FSS (family support specialist) position.

Cons

Working as a Child Development Specialist for a month I can already see that this position sets you up for failure. Regardless of your good intensions, you are held 100% responsible for everything pertaining to the child regardless if that responsibility is "shared" with your assistant or your Family Support Specialist. On top of that, don't count on anyone to actually help you understand your position. Minimal support for co-workers, less from supervisors.
