Dramatic change- for the worse

Pros

Very fast paced so a good opportunity to learn. The office is nice. Startup environment which can be exciting

Cons

Senior management have no idea what is happening beneath them. There is a complete lack of communication between teams even at pivotal moments regarding change of processes. Employees being promoted to rank of manager before being ready which has a negative impact on those working beneath them. General lack of appreciation for hard work and praise going to the wrong people. There are no real “benefits” - working from home is often criticised/judged and therefore not what it is advertised as. The once upbeat, positive culture has quickly diminished with the expansion of the company, turning very political and vindictive.

Pros

- The product itself is cutting edge, and everyone on the engineering/data science side is clearly the best at what they do. - Great office location

Cons

- Management proved to be toxic, time and time again - High turnover due to workplace bullying and people going behind each other's backs - My manager criticised me for working from home when I was ill, citing another employee who had cancer..."if they can come into the office despite being on chemotherapy, so can you!" - Lack of support in terms of career development. - Colleagues repeatedly told to "get over" bullying

Pros

The team in the NYC office is awesome, there's some really great people, great technology and the office is in a good location. The data scientists are world class and have developed a solution utilizing AI that is extremely intelligent and can really help PR professionals.

Cons

Just like a lot of start ups, they are still trying to figure a lot of things out. Management will tell you something to get you motivated but then never follow up with it. There is a complete lack of transparency and the management have their favorites who can do what they want while the others get treated differently and barely get acknowledged. HR claim to care a lot about culture and doing the right thing but that was not evident. There is a huge amount of turnover, in just a few months more than half of the team left the business. Management barely acknowledged or explained why this was the case and what was being done to resolve this issue. There is a lack of support and you're left to figure everything out on your own. Autonomy is great but support is always going to be needed. Management make themselves readily available for certain people and not for others. There were instances of having to wait 3 days just to get time with my manager, had they not been remote and were in the office like everyone else then this likely would not be the case. Senior management seem confused about where they want to go and what the overall business strategy is. You're allowed to work from home 2 days a week but you will be judged for doing so, even though there has been a pandemic for the past 2 years. Everyone has to be located in NYC and be in the office 3 days a week unless you're management which is counterintuitive.
