Pros

Get to meet wonderful people. Get to see into peoples lives, and treasure getting to know them. Ask questions, get to hear about how they got to where they are, what their philosophies are, their life stories, their advice. The opportunity for connection is limitless.

Cons

Dementia! I learned to love working with dementia patients but be warned if it's your first job with them. Don't take what they say personally. I wish someone had told me that before my first position. It's not about you. It's about them. Second! Beeoches. There are so many old ladies you're going to run into who are BEEOCHES. Don't be afraid to tell the bossman that I'm sorry, this isn't a good fit. I was too afraid to say something and ended up staying with a little old lady who was H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS to work with for two years. Former CEO of a company. Beeoch! Stand up for yourself. If you don't know how, this job will teach you. You'll learn a lot about yourself if you don't know yourself very well!

Pros

Somewhat flexible working conditions. Apps are leveraged to make clock in/out and pay more seamless.

Cons

Numerous pay cheques were for less than I had earned and it took them multiple business days to correct them. Communication was generally poor and left me uncertain of best company practices. I got the feeling that questions were a burden to them instead of a mark of an employee with initiative. I was hired as a companion (at lower pay) but was immediately given caregiving work including perineal care, lifts, and bathing care (typically paid at a higher rate). Lack of communication on their part led to a client incurring expenses that they weren't responsible for. They repeatedly offered me shifts that were outside of my hours of availability. I generally felt that management was just trying to fill time slots and otherwise wasn't doing their job with much diligence - for clients or employees.
