Don’t believe the hype

Pros

• Company-provided gym and on-site cafeterias are wonderful • If you are a developer, you have run of the place and will be able to shift jobs until you find a good group

Cons

• SAS periodically cleans out its middle-tier employees. Unless you’re Director level or above, don’t count on staying at sas past your 40th birthday, because you can be replaced at 40% salary savings. • You’ll hear about benefits such as day care, but forget them— you’ll be so far down the seniority tree (and everything is seniority at SAS. Everything.) that your kids will be in college before you’re eligible. • Salaries are well below those of other employers. • They take full advantage of NC labor laws, especially the one that lets them fire you for no reason. Don’t expect to find another job in NC after SAS; people will assume you’re crazy, unemployable, or incompetent because WHY WOULD ANYONE EVER LEAVE SAS?

Pros

Flexibility with schedule (if meetings aren't covering your entire work day) Beautiful campus Onsite cafeterias, health care center and gym

Cons

Not investing in employees Lack of diversity Lots of good talent leaving quickly and taking their expertise with them Hiring freezes for many years and not funding replacements has resulted in less people having to do the work of many. Conflicting priorities that change constantly

Pros

If you have started 10+ years ago then you are holding out for retirement and coasting to the end of the company and the 5 year plan

Cons

Sassholes- many employees feel like they made the company and are entitled working 20 hours a week. As a result, anyone that innovates or moves the company forward is pushed out. Not a glass ceiling but a solid brick ceiling without a single female executive in 40 years only white males.
