      Pros

      Peer review process. Good part time job for experts in the twilight of their careers.

      Cons

      It’s all about billable hours. You will work 60+ hours to bill 20 hours per week. You take home less than 16% of billable hours. High turnover speaks volumes. Inconsistent approaches to helping new experts build their business. Benefits are expensive and 401K is not competitive.

      Interesting field of study. Exposure to many scientific fields and meet interesting people.

      Cons

      No department budgets. Made it difficult to project upgrades needed. Many of the software and equipment ends up dated and out of support.
