Make sure you have a good therapist before working here!

Pros

Met some really kind coworkers.

Cons

Upper management never listened to the needs or suggestions of their over worked creative team. They do not take constructive feedback themselves as they have a power complex over their team and will ridicule anyone's ideas first before considering them. Neither do they seem to care about the product's cause. They don't know how to work with their team and don't know how to even manage projects and tasks successfully. The work environment is extremely toxic. Upper management have no respect for boundaries. The idea of "off-hours" doesn't exist and you're expected to respond to Slack even if it's the weekend or midnight. If you don't, you get reprimanded. You work long hours to reach deadlines and there is no overtime compensation for it. The turn-around rate is super high for an unrealistic amount of work assigned. If you mention that you work after hours to finish output there is clearly no visual concern for this. There is also no PTO and a lot of guilt-tripping that your other teammates will have to "cover" for you if you want a few days off. My mental wellness plummeted here with all the work stress and overstepping of professional boundaries. I will never work here again.

Be careful of the company

Pros

Everyone on the team is talented and easy to work with except the founders.

Cons

The work environment is very toxic, and employees are not treated with respect at all. You are expected to follow orders without question, and any disagreement can result in bullying. One of the founders has no experience working in any company other than this one, which has led to a very bossy management style and poor communication. She doesn't know how to communicate at all—all she does is shout and boss people around. Usually, new hires quit after 6-8 months on average, and some even quit within the first few weeks. To those who see this, I strongly encourage you to think twice before applying to or accepting an offer from this company. I wish someone had told me what it's like here when I received the offer. Life is too short—don't waste your time here. It's not worth it at all.

Pros

The writers and designers are some of the most talented people I have ever worked with. You learn a lot about mental health, neuroscience, and psychology. The work we do here does positively impact the health and wellness of the app users.

Cons

They expect you to have no work-life balance. Literally. The contract doesn't say it (plus, it's written in extremely ambiguous language) but when you hop on calls with one of the founders, they straight-up tell you "We need you to be here for us 24/7." The expectation is between 60-80 hours a week. The pay doesn't reflect how much they demand of employees. The founders lack all the self-awareness in the world and simply refuse to change even though employees are constantly telling them ways to improve. Writers are also expected to act as designers, web developers, and proofreaders. They preach "mental health first" but expect you to be there for them during the wee hours of the night and on weekends. No federal holidays off. (Yep, we work on Christmas, and New Year's, too.) Only 10 days PTO. They play favorites. Literally no benefits. The founders are extremely rude, condescending, and ruthless when they give "feedback." They complain about work quality, but give no pointers on how to improve whatsoever. They also DEMAND that writers use ChatGPT to expedite the work (23-30 articles per week) and then act SHOCKED when the quality is beyond unacceptable. Oh, and there's no HR department.
